Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO CHANGE THE WORLD BY SPARKING EVERY CHILD'S IMAGINATION, SENSE OF DISCOVERY AND LEARNING THROUGH THE POWER OF PLAY.
CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF ATLANTA OPERATES AS AN INSTITUTION OF INFORMAL LEARNING THROUGH HANDS-ON PLAY EXPERIENCES FOR YOUNG CHILDREN, THEIR PARENTS, CAREGIVERS AND TEACHERS. THROUGH INTERACTIVE EXHIBITS, PROGRAMS, WORKSHOPS, AND EXTENSIVE OUTREACH THE MUSEUM OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES ADDRESSING SUBJECTS AND ISSUES THAT ARE IMPORTANT AND RELEVANT TO SCHOOLS, FAMILIES AND THE COMMUNITY. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF MUSEUM VISITORS AND CHILDREN WHO HAVE VISITED THE MUSEUM HAS SURPASSED 3,000,000 SINCE OPENING IN 2003. CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF ATLANTA SERVES AS A "TOWN SQUARE" FOR FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN AND INSTITUTIONS DEDICATED TO THEIR EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT. NEVER HAS THIS BEEN MORE IMPORTANT THAN DURING THE PANDEMIC. IN MARCH 2020, CMA WAS FORCED TO CLOSE ITS DOORS DUE TO COVID-19. IMMEDIATELY, ALL PROGRAMS WERE CONVERTED TO A DIGITAL FORMAT SO THAT FAMILIES COULD BENEFIT FROM ENGAGING EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE EVEN WHILE ISOLATED AT HOME. VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS ALONG WITH DELIVERED CURRICULUM KITS, BROUGHT CHILDREN TOGETHER WITH CMA'S EDUCATORS TO CONTINUE HANDS-ON LEARNING AND ENGAGEMENT. CMA ALSO RESPONDED TO THE SOCIAL JUSTICE CRISIS BY STARTING A FACEBOOK-LIVE SERIES CALLED TOWN SQUARE. LOCAL SUBJECT-MATTER EXPERTS, EDUCATORS, AND GOVERNMENT LEADERS WERE INVITED TO DISCUSS TOPICS INCLUDING IMPLICIT BIAS AND RACISM IN THE CLASSROOM, NAVIGATING VIRTUAL LEARNING WHILE WORKING FROM HOME, UPDATES FROM EPIDEMIOLOGISTS REGARDING THE PANDEMIC, AND HOW TO NAVIGATE THE HOLIDAYS DURING THIS STRESSFUL TIME. CMA HAS INCREASED THE NUMBER OF PARTNERSHIPS IN THE COMMUNITY WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER AND THAT STRONG PARTNERSHIPS WILL BENEFIT INDIVIDUAL ORGANIZATIONS AND THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE. THE EXHIBITS AND PROGRAMS BELOW WERE PRESENTED THROUGH THE FISCAL YEAR UNTIL MID-MARCH WHEN CMA WAS FORCED TO CLOSE. MOST PROGRAMS CONTINUED THROUGH DIGITAL MEDIUM. CMA REOPENED TO THE PUBLIC WITH CAPACITY RESTRICTIONS, MASK MANDATE, AND OTHER HEALTH PROCEDURES IN PLACE ON JULY 1, 2020. WE WORKED CLOSELY WITH CHILDREN'S HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA TO ENSURE THAT EVERY DECISION MADE WAS IN KEEPING WITH BEST PRACTICES FOR OUR STAFF MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC. WE PLAN TO RESUME COMMUNITY-BASED, ONSITE OUTREACH PROGRAMS WHEN HEALTH INDICATORS ALLOW FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
