Organizations Filed Purposes:
To increase the racial and ethnic diversity in the field of nutrition by empowering nutrition leaders of color.
Program #1 Training & Development (Webinar Series) - We provided continuing education opportunities to over 200 students, interns, and professionals of color on topics on cultural sensitivity and professional development. The webinars were offered at little to no cost to the attendees and provided Continuing Education for professionals. The speakers were nutrition and dietetics professionals who have expertise in their areas of practice, and who are also well versed in culturally sensitive practices.
Program #2 Meetups - We hosted networking meetups for the Diversify Dietetics community in over 25 cities and U.S. territories. The meetups offer a way for BIPOC students and professionals to meet their colleagues, in a setting where they are not in the minority, which is rare in the dietetics profession.
Program #3 - Mentor Program - In our first two cohorts, our structured mentor program paired 95 BIPOC students and young professionals with experienced RD professional mentors who have been vetted by our staff. Our program provides resources for mentors and mentees to facilitate a successful relationship. Our structured mentor program format allows us to collect data and continue to refine best practices for mentor programs.
