WE PARTNER WITH EMORY UNIVERSITY TO DECREASE EARLY DEATHS IN ACUTE PROMYELOCYTIC LEUKEMIA (APL)IN GEORGIA AND SOUTH CAROLINA VIA A STUDY FUNDED BY THE LEUKEMIA AND LYMPHOMA SOCIETY. A GRANT FROM THE PATIENT CENTERED OUTCOMES RESEARCH INSTITUTE SUPPORTS DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPARATIVE EFFECTIVENESS RESEARCH PROJECT FOCUSED ON QUALITY OF LIFE FOR CANCER SURVIVORS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MERCER UNIVERSITY.
BREAST CANCER EDUCATION, SCREENING, TREATMENT AND GENETICS GEORGIA CORE ADMINISTERS THE GRANT PROGRAM TO DISTRIBUTE PROCEEDS FROM SALE OF BREAST CANCER LICENSE TAGS THROUGH A CONTRACT WITH THE STATE OFFICE OF RURAL HEALTH OF THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY HEALTH. SINCE 2013 MORE THAN 3 MILLION HAS BEEN DISTRIBUTED TO 26 NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS STATEWIDE FOR BREAST CANCER EDUCATION, SCREENING, TREATMENT, GENETIC COUNSELING & TESTING TO GEORGIA'S UNDERSERVED WOMEN. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH GEORGIA CORE PROVIDES ONLINE RISK ASSESSMENT FOR HEREDITARY BREAST AND OVARIAN CANCER (HBOC) USING THE B-RST (TM) ON BREASTCANCERGENESCREEN.ORG WHICH IS RECOMMENDED BY THE US PREVENTIVE SERVICES TASK FORCE.
CANCER SURVIVORSHIP AND ADVOCACY WITH MORE THAN 410,000 CANCER SURVIVORS LIVING IN GEORGIA, GEORGIA CORE IS FOCUSED ON IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR SURVIVORS. AN ADVISORY BOARD OF CANCER SURVIVORS GUIDES THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROGRAMS INCLUDING COMPREHENSIVE ONLINE CANCER INFORMATION CENTERS (WWW.GEORGIACANCERINFO.ORG AND WWW.GEORGIACANCERINFO.ORG/SURVIVORSHIP) TO CONNECT PATIENTS AND SURVIVORS TO NEEDED RESOURCES. IN 2014, A STATEWIDE NEEDS ASSESSMENT WAS CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE UNMET NEEDS OF GEORGIA'S CANCER SURVIVORS. DISSEMINATION OF THE SURVEY RESULTS IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY. A STATEWIDE NETWORK OF PATIENT NAVIGATORS RECEIVES TRAINING, TOOLS AND SUPPORT TO ASSIST PATIENTS AND SURVIVORS IN CANCER CENTERS ACROSS THE STATE.
