GHA ENGAGES COMMUNITIES AROUND THE WORLD TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELL- BEING OF WOMEN, CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS.
1.HEALTH SYSTEMS STRENGTHENING A.LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT/GOVERNANCE (SUBSAHARAN AFRICA): GHA PROVIDED TRAINING, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND COACHING IN LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT/GOVERNANCE FOR 10 FAITH-BASED HEALTH FACILITIES IN KENYA. B.COMMUNITY AND MATERNAL HEALTH (HAITI): GHA PROVIDED ONGOING TRAINING SUPPORT TO 56 TRADITIONAL BIRTH ATTENDANTS (TBAS) IN THE PETIT-GOAVE DISTRICT OF HAITI TO (1) IMPROVE BASIC HEALTH SERVICES FOR EXPECTANT MOTHERS; (2) INCREASE REFERRALS OF WOMEN AT RISK OF COMPLICATIONS AND WOMEN EXPERIENCING DIFFICULT DELIVERIES. ALTOGETHER, THESE TBAS ATTENDED 725 LIVE BIRTHS, MADE 235 REFERRALS TO HEALTH CENTERS FOR PREGNANT WOMEN WITH HIGHER-RISK FOR COMPLICATIONS, AND CONDUCTED 2,020 POSTNATAL HOME VISITS IN ORDER TO HELP MOTHERS AND NEWBORNS START HEALTHIER LIVES TOGETHER. C.EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT (CHINA): GHA PROVIDED VIRTUAL AND ON-SITE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND CONSULTATION REGARDING ZERO TO THREE (EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT) PLANS WITH NATIONAL AND LOCAL OFFICIALS AND CONDUCTED FIELD VISITS WITH CONSULTATION TO ZERO TO THREE CENTERS. AS A PLENARY SPEAKER AT THE FIRST TRAINING SESSION IN CHINA'S WESTERN PROVINCES REGARDING ZERO TO THREE STRATEGIES, GHA PROVIDED AN OVERVIEW OF CHILD CARE POLICIES AND BEST PRACTICES FROM THE US AND INTERNATIONALLY TO OVER 200 COMMUNITY AND HEALTH OFFICIALS
2.COMMUNITY CAPACITY BUILDING A.ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (SUBSAHARAN AFRICA): GHA PROVIDED TRAINING, COACHING AND CAPACITY BUILDING TO 24 EAST AFRICA CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS THROUGH IN PERSON, ONE ON ONE, AND VIRTUAL MODALITIES. B.NETWORKS (KENYA): GHA FACILITATED THE DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS (CSO)/GOVERNMENT/HEALTH FACILITY NETWORKS IN KENYA FOR COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMMING TO ADDRESS IMMEDIATE AND EMERGING LOCAL CHALLENGES. C.COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES (SUBSAHARAN AFRICA): THROUGH COACHING, CONSULTING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, THE GHA NETWORK OF CSOS DEVELOPED INNOVATIVE AND EFFECTIVE RESPONSES TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC LOCALLY.
3.GLOBAL ADVOCACY FOR STRONGER HEALTH SYSTEMS A.UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE: GHA PROVIDED CONSULTATION AND FACILITATION TO JUST UNDER 200 GLOBAL HEALTH LEADERS IN DEVELOPING THE POLICY AGENDA FOR U.S. AND GLOBAL HEALTH POLICYMAKERS. THE 2019 GLOBAL HEALTH COUNCIL ANNUAL MEETING SYMPOSIUM EXPLORED A NUMBER OF THEMES AND CONSIDERATIONS TO GET TO THE HEART OF WHAT IT MEANS - FOR ALL ACTORS - TO DEMOCRATIZEGLOBALHEALTH. TO ACHIEVE HEALTH FOR ALL PEOPLE, NATIONAL HEALTH PROGRAMS MUST BE DRIVEN BY COUNTRY STRATEGIES, LOCAL LEADERSHIP, AND DOMESTIC RESOURCES RATHER THAN EXTERNAL DONORS OR PARTNERS. B.GLOBAL HEALTH CRISIS COORDINATION: GHA PROVIDED CONSULTATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GLOBAL HEALTH CRISIS COORDINATION CENTER (GHC3), COLLABORATIVE DESIGNED TO BUILD COLLABORATION AMONGST THE VARIOUS STAKEHOLDERS IN THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY ESPECIALLY BASED IN GEORGIA TO ADDRESS COORDINATION DURING GLOBAL CRISES. GHC3 IS SPEARHEADING COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS TO (1) RESTART THE ECONOMY BY GATHERING EMPLOYER DATA, RESEARCHING BEST PRACTICES, AND DELIVERING COMPREHENSIVE GUIDANCE; (2) RESEARCH AND PROVIDE BEST PRACTICES FOR SAFE RETURN TO SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN AND (3) ENGAGE AND PROVIDE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SAFE RETURN TO WORSHIP. C.UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE: GHA ENGAGED YOUTH AND WOMEN GROUPS ACROSS KENYA AND LESOTHO TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF UHC AND TARGET MEDIA FOR LOCAL ADVOCACY. OVER 460 PEOPLE FROM THE NAIROBI SLUMS, SIAYA AND KISUMU COUNTY WERE EDUCATED AND EMPOWERED WITH KNOWLEDGE AND ACCESS TO THE HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME IN KENYA. IN COLLABORATION WITH THE HUB, A YOUTH BASED ORGANIZATION IN MORIJA, LESOTHO, YOUNG PEOPLE AND WOMEN WERE INTERVIEWED TO OFFER THEIR PERSPECTIVES AND THEIR NEEDS PERTAINING TO UHC IN THEIR COMMUNITY. THE VIDEO FOOTAGE WAS USED FOR HEALTH CLINICS AND CENTERS THROUGH THE NATIONAL CHURCH HEALTH ASSOCIATION WHICH COVERS MORE THAN 50% OF ALL HEALTH CARE SERVICES IN THE NATION, AS WELL AS LOCAL LEADERS FOR ADVOCACY.
