To give under-resourced children in Atlanta the hope and love of Jesus Christ through awesome wilderness experiences and outdoor adventures.
Julie's Dream seeks to address the systemic barriers inhibiting youth from low-income communities to experience the transformative power of the outdoors. Julie's Dream partners with nonprofits in Atlanta who serve disadvantaged area youth: Agape Youth and Family Center, Wilderness Works, and PAWKids. Julie's Dream and the partners develop outdoor experiences targeting elementary, middle, and high school youth. Through Julie's Dream trips and experiences, youth are given tools for success including teambuilding and leadership skills and develop self-confidence as they engage in outdoor challenges. Julie's Dream volunteers plan and participate in trips as mentors for youth. Julie's Dream creates and funds year-round trips and all associated supplies. With the onset of COVID-19, many plans for the spring and summer had to be canceled or reimagined. However, Julie's Dream was able to provide a trip to God's Farm camp for youth to fish, canoe, and visit with the animals; a trip to Serenbe for a group of middle school girls; an overnight camping trip for youth to Cashiers, NC to hike Whiteside Mountain and tube Lake Glenville; a trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota; and a series of virtual outdoor learning programs provided by the Blue Heron Nature Preserve. Julie's Dream has provided outdoor experiences for over 500 children since its founding.
