ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AND COMMUNITY RESILIENCE BY CREATING A SUSTAINABLE LIFECYCLE FOR THE BUILT ENVIROMENT.
LIFECYCLE BUILDING CENTERS MATERIAL REUSE CENTER PROVIDES RECLAIMED BUILDING MATERIALSTO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AT DEEP DISCOUNTS, TYPICALLY 50-85% LESS THAN NEW MATERIAL COSTS.THE CENTER IS OPEN 5 DAYS PER WEEK, TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY, AND VISITORS CAN ALSO DROPOFF MATERIAL DONATIONS DURING BUSINESS HOURS. THE CENTER HOUSES SALVAGED MATERIALS SUCH AS DOORS, WINDOWS, CABINETS, FLOORING, APPLIANCES, PLUMBING, LIGHTING, LUMBER, MECHANICALEQUIPMENT, ARCHITECTURAL COMPONENTS AND MORE. SINCE BEGINNING OPERATIONS IN 2011, LBC HAS DIVERTED 6.6 MILLION POUNDS OF USABLE BUILDING MATERIALS FROM DISPOSAL AND SAVED THE COMMUNITY $3.7 MILLION THROUGH DISCOUNTS ON MATERIAL PURCHASES AND THROUGH MATERIAL DONATIONS TO 191 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. IN 2020, LBCS GOAL IS TO DIVERT AN ADDITIONAL 1.1 MILLION POUNDS OF BUILDING MATERIALS FROM LANDFILLS AND EXTEND AND ADDITIONAL $600,000 SAVINGS TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH MATERIAL DONATIONS AND DISCOUNTS.
ASSIST WITH DECONSTRUCTION SERVICES TO ENHANCE SUSTAINABILITY IN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT. DECONSTRUCTION IS THE PRACTICE OF DISASSEMBLING A BUILDING IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE BUILDING MATERIALS CAN BE REUSED AND IS A COST COMPETITIVE ALTERNATIVE TO CONVENTIONAL BUILDING DEMOLITION. LIFECYCLE BUILDING CENTER (LBC) WILL STRIVE IN 2020 TO EXECUTE A MINIMUM OF 40 DECONSTRUCTION PROJECTS AND CONTINUE OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH GEORGIA WORKS TO PROVIDE MEN WHO ARE TRANSITIONING OUT OF CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS AND INCARCERATION WITH DECONSTRUCTION TRAINING, TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, AND OPPORTUNITIES TO BE HIRED BY LBC AS A FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE. SINCE FORMING THIS PARTNERSHIP WITH GEORGIA WORKS IN 2016, LBC HAS PROVIDED OVER 6,000 HOURS OF TRAINING AND TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT TO 60 INDIVIDUALS, AND HAS HIRED FIVE GEORGIA WORKS GRADUATES AS FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES.
PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO QUALIFYING NON PROFITS, SCHOOLS AND HOUSES OF FAITH THROUGH IN-KIND BUILDING MATERIAL DONATIONS TO LOWER THE COST OF THEIR FACILITY RENOVATION AND CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS. LBC HAS AWARDED 279 BUILDING MATERIAL GRANTS TO 191 NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS SINCE 2011. IN 2020, LBC IS SEEKING TO AWARD AN ADDITIONAL 25 MATERIAL GRANTS TO NONPROFITS. PAST GRANT RECIPIENTS INCLUDE ATLANTA BELTLINE PARTNERSHIP, BEARINGS BIKE SHOP, BIG BROTHERS, BIG SISTERS OF METRO ATLANTA,BOYS & GIRLS CLUB, FOOD WELL ALLIANCE, FRIENDS OF REFUGEES, GEORGIA TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION, GEORGIA WORKS, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY, HOMEAID ATLANTA, HOSEA FEED THE HUNGRY, NICHOLAS HOUSE, NORTH DECATUR PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, PARTNERSHIP FOR SOUTHERN EQUITY, THE STONEHAVEN SCHOOL, TREES ATLANTA,TRULY LIVING WELL URBAN FARM AND WESTSIDE FUTURE FUND.
