2018 HIGHLIGHTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS Grow: Collaborating with regional partners to drive economic impact, job creation and continued ecosystem expansion. - Joined our regional partners in celebrating major economic development wins, including Norfolk Southern HQ, Thyssenkrupp Elevator HQ, Starbucks, BlackRock Innovation Hub, Pandora and Facebook with total capital investment of $750 million. - Met with 574 Atlanta-based companies and 246 companies outside of Georgia, resulting in 12,000 incremental new jobs, which is a 24 percent increase over prior year. - Selected to join three other U.S. metros in the Brookings Global Identity Cohort to get a deeper understanding of the perception of Atlanta. - Partnered with the Atlanta Bridge Community and Techstars to co-host the second annual Atlanta Corporate Innovation Summit. - Celebrated the fifth annual Atlanta Science Festival, with over 50,0000 attendees. - Introduced the Board Seats program through ATLeaders. - Launched Global Health ATL in collaboration with the Georgia Global Health Alliance and Deloitte to drive metro Atlantas reputation as the center for global health. - Launched ORBATL, a regional partnership of public and private leaders that enables businesses to grow in the global economy. - Launched the IoT.ATL AgTech Challenge on the Atlanta BeltLine. - Announced seven new companies joining the Backed by ATL cohort of Atlanta-based scaling tech companies. - Continued to serve as one of the founding sponsors of Venture Atlanta, which hosted nearly 1,000 attendees and more than 250 investors representing close to 170 funds in 2018 and has generated roughly $2.7 billion from presenting companies since its inception. - Partnered with Georgia Tech/ATDC on five road trips, in which 48 Atlanta companies participated and presented to 125 venture funds, resulting in nearly $10 million in capital investment to date. - Marked the second annual Atlanta Cyber Week, hosted in partnership with Baker Donelson. - Added Alex Gonzalez to the team as chief innovation officer to work within our regions innovation ecosystem to fuel growth, increase awareness and attract talent as well as promote the regions innovation brand at the local and national level. Advocate: Working to maintain a business-friendly climate for all people. - Worked throughout the 2018 legislative session to promote pro-business legislation, oppose discriminatory legislation and protect Georgias reputation as the #1 state for doing business. - Launched votemetroATL.com, a non-partisan online tool to share information more about races across metro Atlanta, including various ballot initiatives. - Released Learn4Lifes second annual report on education in metro Atlanta. - Served as the host organization for the 100K Opportunities Initiative, an employer-driven initiative focused on connecting the regions 16- to 24-year-olds with entry-level jobs. - Hosted Infrastructure Week, which focused on transit, tech and inclusive community. - Named the top lobbying organization by James magazine. Promote: Telling Atlantas remarkable story to the world. - Hosted the College Football Playoff National Championship. - Received the official handoff of Super Bowl LIII. - Returned to SXSW and launched THEA, the first ever city-based OTT video platform, which has hit more than one million views to date. - Secured and coordinated Bloomberg TVs first live broadcast from Atlanta showcasing some of our regions top brands and leaders, which garnered roughly 66 minutes of airtime and reached more than 6.2 million people. - Hosted ChooseATLs second annual summer block parties in 10 metro locations. - Engaged more than 1,200 summer interns in local culture and community through ChooseATL After 5, now in its third year. - Launched ATL Brand Box, a free digital toolkit that includes messaging, photos, videos, slides and more to help anyone be a brand ambassador for metro Atlanta. - Promoted Deisha Barnett to chief brand and communications officer to align MACs marketing and communications efforts under a strategic 'house of brands' approach as well as oversee ChooseATL. Operate: Operating with passion for the metro region and integrity in our work. - Demonstrated exceptional teamwork through cross-chamber collaboration. - Renegotiated several operational contracts and completed a reorganization of the facilities team. - Executed a reduction of the budget going towards operations to better reflect and execute organizational goals over the last five years. In 2013, our spending was 64 percent programs and 36 percent operations. The 2019 budget reflects 75 percent of spending on programs and 25 percent on operations. Reduced staff from 79 members (in 2013) to a core team of 65 (in 2018) across MACs departments comprising a reduction of 16 operational positions while adding two program-related positions. Total net reduction of 14 positions. Exceeded overall revenue goals. - Funded the strategic plan through Forward Atlanta. - Executed top-tier events for investors including: 159th annual meeting at State Farm Arena and five Delta Air Lines Insights on Leadership, which featured top leaders including Paul Donahue of Genuine Parts, Bill Roger of SunTrust Bank and Alex Taylor of Cox Enterprises.
