Rayo de Sol works with children, adolescents and adults in vulnerable communities in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, where poverty levels are high and social services are extremely limited. Currently, the organization implements five programs, including: Spiritual Development, Educational Quality, Integral Community Health, Youth in Action and Community Development. These programs are designed to respond to the pressing needs in these communities and improve the quality of life of more than 5,000 people. Rayo de Sol currently provides program services in 35 schools and communities in Matagalpa, striving to improve health, education and nutrition services for the most impoverished communities, as well as creating new economic opportunities for adults. This work is done in coordination with local organizations, community leaders and public agencies. Rayo de Sol implements health, education, nutrition and community development programs in vulnerable communities in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. Most notably, program services are provided for more than 3,000 preschool and primary students, which has helped to improve retention and promotion rates. All children receive nutritious meals every school day, which has reduced malnourishment by more than ten percent. Rayo de Sol also offers scholarships for more than 400 high school and university students. This allows them to stay in school and continue their education, since their families cant afford to support their academic efforts. There were also 150 adults that participated in vocational training and small business development courses. This creates new economic opportunities so that families can break the cycles of chronic poverty.
