THE SANDY SPRINGS CONSERVANCY PROVIDES EDUCATION:WITH THE SIXTH ANNUAL THOUGHT LEADER DINNER, THE SANDY SPRINGS CONSERVANCY EDUCATED AND INFORMED CLOSE TO 200 BUSINESS, CIVIC, COMMUNITY AND POLITICAL LEADERS FROM ACROSS THE REGION AS TO THE BENEFITS AND BEST PRACTICES IN GREEN SPACE, TRAIL, PARK AND TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT FOR COMMUNITIES. ELLEN DUNHAM-JONES, ARCHITECT, GEORGIA TECH PROFESSOR AND VISIONARY URBAN PLANNER PROVIDED THE KEYNOTE PRESENTATION ABOUT REDEVELOPING AND REGREENING UNDERUTILIZED RETAIL PROPERTIES, WITH A FOCUS ON SANDY SPRINGS.
SANDY SPRINGS CONSERVANCY CREATES:SINCE 2001, THE SANDY SPRINGS CONSERVANCY HAS HELPED TO CREATE 100+ ACRES OF PARKS, GREENSPACE AND TRAILS BY CONTRIBUTING EXPERTISE AND MATCHING FUNDS FOR PARK PROJECTS, INCLUDING THE ABERNATHY GREENWAY, MORGAN FALLS OVERLOOK PARK, ALLEN ROAD PARK AND WINDSOR MEADOWS PARK.THE CONSERVANCY IS COMMITTED TO DEVELOPING MULTI-USE TRAILS THAT INCREASE MOBILITY AND CONNECTIVITY LINKING PARKS WITH DESTINATIONS SUCH AS MARTA AND CITY SPRINGS. WE HAVE PROVIDED ASSISTANCE IN FUNDING AND IN-KIND SUPPORT FOR THE GREENWAY TRAIL MASTER PLAN FOR SANDY SPRINGS.
SANDY SPRINGS CONSERVANCY CONSERVES:THE SANDY SPRINGS CONSERVANCY CONTINUES IN ITS COMMITMENT TO CONSERVE AND PROTECT LAND IN SANDY SPRINGS. THE CONSERVANCY TRAIL CLEANUP PROGRAMS BRING CORPORATE AND LOCAL CIVIC GROUPS TO MORGAN FALLS OVERLOOK PARK. THE DESIGN OF THIS PARK AND A ONE-MILE TRAIL NEAR THE CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER WAS PARTIALLY FUNDED BY THE CONSERVANCY IN 2007. WE EXPANDED IN 2019 TO INCLUDE CROOKED CREEK PARK, IN CONJUNCTION WITH VBSS (VOLUNTEER FOR A BETTER SANDY SPRINGS). DURING THESE EVENTS, VOLUNTEERS LEARNED THE HISTORY OF THE AREAS AND SAW THE BENEFIT OF LAND CONSERVATION. WE WORK WITH THE CITY OF SANDY SPRINGS TO OBTAIN ADDITIONAL LAND FOR PARKS, TRAILS AND GREEN SPACE PER OUR UPDATED STRATEGIC PLAN THAT IS AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE.
