BLOOM OUR YOUTH, INC. IS A PRIVATE, NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO PROVIDING A SAFE, NURTURING ENVIRONMENT AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO CHILDREN AND YOUTH WHO HAVE BEEN THE VICTIMS OF ABUSE, NEGLECT OTHER TRAGIC FAMILY CIRCUMSTANCE.

THE BLOOM CLOSET IS A RESOURCE CENTER FOR CLOTHING AND OTHER NECESSITIES FOR CHILDREN LIVING IN FOSTER CARE IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA. IMAGINE BEING A YOUNG PERSON WHO SUDDENLY WAS REMOVED FROM HOME BY THE DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES. IT IS LIKELY THAT YOU ARE SCARED, CONFUSED, AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, YOU LEAVE YOUR HOME WITHOUT ANY POSSESSIONS. THIS IS A REAL SCENARIO FOR NINE OUT OF TEN CHILDREN ENTERING THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM. BLOOM BELIEVES THAT CHILDREN DESERVE TO FEEL AND LOOK THEIR BEST AND PROVIDES AN IMMEDIATE AND DIRECT RESOURCE THROUGH THE BLOOM CLOSET.ESTABLISHED IN 2008, THE BLOOM CLOSET PROVIDES NEW OR GENTLY USED CLOTHING, TOYS, AND SUPPLIES FOR FOSTER YOUTH AT NO CHARGE. TO FURTHER ENHANCE THE EXPERIENCE, THE BLOOM CLOSET IS SET UP TO FEEL LIKE AN EXCLUSIVE BOUTIQUE. IT IS A FUN ENVIRONMENT WHERE CHILDREN ARE ENCOURAGED TO TAKE A WEEK'S WORTH OF ITEMS AND IF MORE ITEMS ARE DESIRED, BLOOM HAPPILY ACCOMMODATES THE REQUEST. IN FISCAL YEAR ENDED 2018, OVER 3,800 FOSTER CHILDREN FROM 90 GEORGIA COUNTIES WERE SERVED AT THE BLOOM CLOSET.

BLOOM RECRUITS, TRAINS, AND SUPPORTS A NETWORK OF FOSTER FAMILIES AND GIVES THEM THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO PROVIDE EXCEPTIONAL CARE TO THE CHILDREN THEY TAKE INTO THEIR HOMES. BLOOM IS LICENSED TO SERVE BASIC LEVEL FOSTER CHILDREN AS WELL AS FOSTER CHILDREN WITH SIGNIFICANT THERAPEUTIC ISSUES, MEDICALLY FRAGILE FOSTER CHILDREN AND PREGNANT OR PARENTING FOSTER TEEN GIRLS. TO ENSURE THAT THE FAMILIES WHO JOIN BLOOM'S FOSTER CARE TEAM HAVE THE CHARACTER AND HIGH STANDARDS REQUIRED, BLOOM PERFORMS RIGOROUS BACKGROUND CHECKS, INTERVIEWS, AND HOME STUDIES. ADDITIONALLY, BLOOM PROVIDES YEAR-ROUND TRAINING THROUGH BLOOM UNIVERSITY (BLOOM U) WHERE FOSTER PARENTS RECEIVE THE TRAINING THEY NEED TO PROVIDE HEALING FOR TRAUMATIZED CHILDREN. BLOOM FOSTER CARE ALSO PROVIDES RESPITE CARE BREAKS, SUPPORT GROUPS, NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES AND REFERRALS TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES. CASEWORKERS MAINTAIN LOW CASELOADS TO ENSURE PERSONALIZED ATTENTION, AND A STAFF MEMBER IS ON-CALL 24/7 TO PROVIDE SUPPORT DURING CRISES. BLOOM CELEBRATES THE WORK OF FOSTER PARENTS, AND SUPPORTING THEM IS CRUCIAL TO PROVIDING POSITIVE OUTCOMES FOR CHILDREN IN THEIR CARE.
