Organizations Filed Purposes:
The Center Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully Inc. (C.H.O.I.C.E.S.) is a nonprofit organization formed in year 2002. The Center's mission is to be a parent and children resource center for the clinically diagnosed and at-risk children of obesity.
The Children's Nutrition Education & Physical Activity Expo is a year round outreach program providing onsite services at community health fairs and after school programs. C.H.O.I.C.E.S. participated in 29 events reaching 3,045 children and adults. The Let's Move DeKalb Back To School Expo event is held annually to provide nutrition education, health information and school supplies to families. C.H.O.I.C.E.S. provided 1,500 people with 30,000 pounds of food and gave 1,050 children backpacks filled with school supplies.
The Cooking with C.H.O.I.C.E.S. is a free 3-week program for underserved families. The program teaches families how to prepare healthy meals on a budget using seasonal foods. C.H.O.I.C.E.S. provided 35 cooking classes which educated 254 participants and 740 secondary family members. The Thanksgiving Turkey Basket and Food Giveaway is held annually to provide food to underserved families for the holiday and school break. C.H.O.I.C.ES. provided 600 people with 10,000 pounds of food which served 1,763 secondary family members. The C.H.O.I.C.E.S. Community Teaching Kitchen is currently under renovation and projected to open in the Spring of 2019. The primary purpose of the kitchen is to be a hub for community health education using cooking classes and educational workshops. The secondary purpose of the kitchen is to be a resource for other health minded non-profit organizations in Metropolitan Atlanta.
C.H.O.I.C.E.S. Community Teaching Kitchen is a teaching hub where we host healthy cooking clases and workshops to help fight against chronic diseases related to obesity. Our culinary team, kitchen, along with the attached 3000sq.ft. event space, is also available for private events to teach healthy cooking recipes and methods.
