Domestic Violence Shelter Our Domestic Violence Shelter is a 40 bed facility. Case Managers use client-centered services to assess, determine and establish individual service plans (ISP) to meet immediate and future needs. Our primary objectives are: 1) To provide a safe and nurturing environment; 2) To provide support services for women, men and children; 3) To provide information and referral services regarding permanent housing, social services, education, job training, and medical services; and 4) To provide 24-hour crisis services.On average, monthly we house 40 women and children of which 75% are African American, 10% Caucasian, 5% Hispanic and 10% are other races or of mixed heritage. Ages served typically range from newborn to 60 plus. These statistics further show the need to provide programs and services that protect, educate, empower and advocate for women, men, children and families. Through an extensive network of service providers and community volunteers, we are helping women, men, children and families reclaim their lives. Daily we answer crisis calls; provide housing, health care referrals, financial assistance, educational and employment assistance, transportation assistance, legal advocacy and assistance in obtaining Temporary Protective Orders; educate clients, community groups and others on the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse to prevent victimization and re-victimization; provide parenting information to assist clients and their children in overcoming the traumas of displacement and family violence; provide individual and group counseling to discuss the affects of abuse and sexual assault; and teach money management techniques.During Fiscal Year ending 06/30/2019, liveSAFE Resources, Inc. answered 5,084 calls to our crisis line, contacted over 1,455 potential domestic violence and stalking victims referred by the Cobb, Cherokee, and Paulding County Police Departments, and provided information to thousands of community members through events, meetings, and presentations to groups. We assisted clients with filing for 873 temporary protective orders. We provided over 2,280 hours of counseling for domestic violence victims, children who lived with violence, and the families of victims. During the fiscal year ending 06/30/2019, liveSAFE Resources provided temporary shelter to 348 women and children. All residential clients and many non-residential clients received financial assistance for child care, transportation, food, tuition and educational fees, and/or rent and utility deposits.
Transitional HousingTransitional housing is offered up to 24 months for qualified victims of domestic violence. The program has twelve apartments and three houses as well as programs to assist victims to remain in housing in the community. The focus is on economic empowerment to move clients, whether with children or without, toward sustainability for living independently in permanent housing free of violence.The program serves women and children fleeing a domestic violence situation. They can self refer or be referred by a liveSAFE Resources, Inc. case manager or an outside agency. Eligibility for admittance into the transitional housing program is a specific criterion that identifies them as a victim of domestic violence who does not want to return to an abusive relationship and is making steps to become self-sufficient.Through an extensive network of service providers and community partners and volunteers, we help women, children and families reclaim their lives.During the fiscal year ending 06/30/2019, 82 clients lived in liveSAFE Resources, Inc. transitional housing, and we assisted 120 clients through our Abuse in Later Life program. We receive referrals from Cobb, Cherokee, and Paulding Counties police departments for domestic violence. LiveSAFE Resources, Inc. is the only certified domestic violence shelter in Cobb County. While we primarily serve Cobb, Paulding, and Cherokee, we have cases referred to us from all over metro Atlanta. In addition to our location in Cobb County, we also provide 2 advocates to the Sexual Assault Cold Case Task Force in Dekalb County entirely focused on assisting victims of sexual assault cases and filing temporary protective orders in cooperation with State and local law enforcement.
Sexual Assault Program24 hours a day; 7 days a week, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners provide forensic medical examinations and sexual assault victim advocates provide crisis intervention for victims of sexual assault at the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, and the WellStar Regional Sexual Assault Center located at liveSAFE Resources. We receive referrals from Cobb, Cherokee, and Paulding counties police departments for sexual assault cases. Law enforcement officers from Cherokee, Cobb, and Paulding counties contact the SANE nurse on call to deploy a Sexual Assault Response Team. The number of sexual assault cases processed for the Fiscal Year ending 06/30/2019 was 200.
