Organizations Filed Purposes: TO EMPOWER HEALTHY HABITS AND TRANSFORM ENVIRONMENTS WHERE CHILDREN LIVE, LEARN AND PLAY.

EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION: IN 2019/20, HEALTHMPOWERS SERVED OVER 201 EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION CENTERS, REACHING 12,649 CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. THROUGH THREE STATEWIDE PROGRAMS, HEALTHMPOWERS EMPOWERED CHILD CARE CENTERS TO CREATE POLICIES AND PRACTICES THAT INCREASE HEALTHY EATING, MOVING AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT SUPPORTING BOTH HEALTHY BODY AND BRAIN DEVELOPMENT. DURING THE YEAR 1,710 CHILDREN WERE ENGAGED IN CREATING EDIBLE GARDENS AND 1,674 CHILDREN EXPERIENCED NEW FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES THOUGH ON-GOING TASTE TESTINGS.SCHOOLS (K-12): THROUGH SUPPORT OF SNAP-ED (SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM), HEALTHMPOWERS SERVED 101,438 STUDENTS K-12 AT 151 PUBLIC SCHOOLS. ALL SCHOOLS RECEIVED TRAINING AND RESOURCES TO CREATE A HEALTHIER SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT AND DOCUMENTED SUSTAINABLE IMPROVEMENTS. INCREASED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL RESULTED IN A 48% OF STUDENTS MAINTAINING OR IMPROVING A HEALTHY LEVEL OF AEROBIC FITNESS. IN 43 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS, STUDENTS WERE TRAINED AS HEALTH ADVOCATES AND USED STRATEGIES TO PROMOTE HEALTHY HABITS TO THEIR PEERS. IN COLLABORATION WITH THE DEPT OF PUBLIC HEALTH, HEALTHMPOWERS ALSO PILOTED GEORGIA SHAPE'S MIDDLE SCHOOL POWER UP FOR 30! PROGRAM, AIMED AT INTEGRATING AT LEAST 30 MINUTES OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. IN ADDITION TO THESE PROGRAMS, HEALTHMPOWERS AND EMORY UNIVERSITY LAUNCHED A LARGE-SCALE, MULTI-YEAR RESEARCH STUDY FUNDED BY THE ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON FOUNDATION, IN 40 GWINNETT COUNTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS TO ANALYZE THE LINK BETWEEN SCHOOL-BASED PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT.OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME AND COMMUNITIES: HEALTHMPOWERS' SNAP-ED OUT OF SCHOOL TIME PROGRAM SERVED 24 BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB SITES WITH YEAR ROUND PROGRAMMING, PROVIDING HANDS-ON TASTE TESTING, COOKING AND GARDENING, FAMILY EVENTS AND YOUTH ENGAGEMENT. AS A RESULT, 193 POUNDS OF PRODUCE WAS GROWN FROM 18 GARDENS. IN THE COMMUNITY SECTOR, HEALTHMPOWERS WORKED IN EIGHT FOOD INSECURE COUNTIES TO INCREASE ACCESS AND PROVIDE NUTRITION EDUCATION AND TASTE TESTINGS IN FOOD OUTLETS, FOOD PANTRIES AND COMMUNITY CENTERS. 93% OF PARTICIPANTS IN TASTE TESTINGS INDICATED THEY PLANNED TO PURCHASE THE FRUIT/VEGETABLE. SOCIAL MARKETING MESSAGES FOR INCREASING FRUIT, VEGETABLE AND WATER CONSUMPTION AS WELL AS PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WERE USED THROUGHOUT THESE COMMUNITIES TO ENCOURAGE BEHAVIOR CHANGE.
