FOUNDED IN 1740 AS ONE OF THE FIRST COLONIAL ORPHANAGES, BETHESDA ACADEMY CONTINUES TO ADDRESS EDUCATIONAL CHALLENGES AND OTHER CONCERNS OF FAMILIES AND STUDENTS TO PROMOTE THE DISCOVERY OF THE INHERENT POTENTIAL OF EVERY YOUNG MAN. BETHESDA ACADEMY'S MISSION IS AS FOLLOWS: PREPARING TOMORROW'S LEADERS AND ENTREPERNEURS BY INSPIRING YOUNG MEN TO DISCOVER THEIR ACADEMIC, SOCIAL AND SPIRITUAL POTENTIAL.
BETHESDA ACADEMY PROVIDES 96 YOUNG MEN IN GRADES 6-12 A TRANSFORMATIVE OPPORTUNITY FOR SUCCESS BY PROMOTING AND INSTILLING A LOVE OF GOD, A LOVE OF LEARNING, AND A STRONG WORK ETHIC.
BETHESDA ACADEMY OFFERS A BOARDING PROGRAM FOR APPROXIMATELY 17 STUDENTS EACH DAY. THE BOARDING COMPONENT PROVIDES GREATER STRUCTURE FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO WOULD MOST BENEFIT FROM A COMPREHENSIVE 24-HOUR APPROACH TO THEIR ACADEMIC, SOCIAL, AND ETHICAL DEVELOPMENT. THE BOARDING PROGRAMS ARE STAFFED BY A COTTAGE TEACHER TEAM, WHICH INCLUDES LIVE-IN SUPPORT FROM DORM PARENTS, RESIDENTIAL ADVISORS, CAMPUS CHAPLAIN, AND SUPPORTIVE COUNSELING WHEN NEEDED.
BETHESDA ACADEMY IS A FULLY ACCREDITED ACADEMIC PROGRAM FOR ALL 96 STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-12. STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM A 1:12 TEACHER TO STUDENT RATIO, A BLENDED CURRICULUM OF DIDACTIC TEACHING INTERACTIONS, WEB-BASED CURRICULUM SUPPORT, AND A VAST EXPOSURE TO THE LIVING LABS OF BETHESDA ACADEMY WHICH INCLUDES A WORKING FARM, WILDLIFE PRESERVE, AND OTHER WORK- STUDY ENVIRONMENTS. THIS BOY-FRIENDLY APPROACH TO LEARNING HAS RESULTED IN 81% OF BETHESDA GRADUATES ATTENDING COLLEGE, WITH THE REMAINING 19% EQUALLY DIVIDED BETWEEN MILITARY AND WORK OPPORTUNITIES AFTER GRADUATION. THE ACADEMIC, WORK-STUDY, AND SPIRITUAL FORMATION PROGRAMS ARE ALSO SUPPORTED THROUGH A STRONG ATHLETIC COMMITMENT TO FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, TRACK AND FIELD, AND BOWLING WITHIN THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION. BETHESDA ACADEMY PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT TO COVER APPROXIMATELY 50% OF ALL TUITION AND ROOM AND BOARD COSTS.
