OUR KULEANA UTILIZIED MANY MEDIA PLATFORMS INCLUDING TV (BOTH LOCAL AND STATE), RADIO, NEWSPAPER, BILLBOARDS, (SIGNAGE) AND SOCIAL MEDIA (FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM AND TIKTOK) TO BLANKET OUR COMMUNITY WITH MESSAGING THAT FEATURED COMPELLING CONTENT AND ENGAGED LOCAL INFLUENCERS WITH LARGE FOLLOWINGS TO PROMOTE FOLLOWING SAFTEY GUIDLEINES.
RECRUIT AND RETAIN PHYSICIANS COMMUNITY FIRST AWARED A GRANT TOTALING $100K TO DR OLIVIA KAPONO IN SEPTEMBER 2019. THIS AWARD MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR HAWAII ISLAND HEALTHCARE, INC TO WELCOME DR. KAPONO INTO THE HILO MEDICAL COMMUNITY AND BUILD HER MEDICAL PRACTICE. UNDER THE AGREEMENT, DR. KAPONO IS REQUIRED TO PRACTICE FULL TIME IN THE EAST HAWAI'I AREA FOR A TOTAL COMMITMENT OF THREE YEARS. A 2019 REPORT WAS REQUESTED TO SATISFY GRANT REQUIREMENTS TOWARD PROVIDING PRIMARY CARE SERVICES
CAN ESTABLISHED IN APRIL 2017, THE COMMUNITY ACTION NETWORK (CAN) WAS DEVELOPED TO BETTER COORDINATE MEDICAL AND SOCIAL SERVICES FOR THE HIGH COST, HIGH NEED PATIENTS OF EAST HAWAII. THESE PATIENTS HAVE MANY MEDICAL AND NON-MEDICAL NEEDS WHICH, IF NOT MET, LEAD TO POOR HEALTH OUTCOMES AND HIGHER MEDICAL EXPENSE. OVER 20 ORGANIZATIONS THAT ADDRESS SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH NEEDS SUCH AS TRANSPORTATION, FOOD INSECUIRTY, UTILITIES, HOUSING, AND PERSONAL SAFETY PARTICIPATE IN THE CAN. THE CAN WELCOMES FRONT-LINE STAFF AND MANAGERS TO JOIN IN DISCUSSIONS ON HOW TO 'WORK BETTER TOGETHER' WITH THE GOAL OF MORE EFFECTIVELY CARING FOR EAST HAWAII COMMUNITY MEMBERS. AN ONLINE INVENTORY WAS CREATED TO FACILITATE REFERRALS AMOUNG CAN ORGANIZATIONS.
