Organizations Filed Purposes: THE HAWAII COUNTY FAIR FOUNDATION (THE ORGANIZATION) WAS ESTABLISHED IN ORDER TO CONTINUE FUNDING AND OPERATIONS OF THE HILO COUNTY FAIR, A LOCAL TRADITION WHICH HAS PROVIDED ENTERTAINMENT AND DELIGHT TO HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF FAIR-GOERS SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1951. THE HILO COUNTY FAIR IS HELD ANNUALLY EACH FALL AT 323 MANONO STREET AT THE FRANCIS WONG STADIUM AND THE AFOOK-CHINEN CIVIC AUDITORIUM.

HOSTING OF THE ANNUAL HILO COUNTY FAIR. FOR A SMALL ISLAND COMMUNITY, THE HILO COUNTY FAIR PROVIDES AN EXCITING OCCASION WHERE FAMILIES GATHER AND ENJOY QUALITY TIME TOGETHER. IN ADDITION TO RIDES AND GAMES, THE FAIR HOSTS A WIDE VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNITY EXHIBITS, WHICH HIGHLIGHTS HILOS UNIQUE HISTORY AS AN AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY AND A PLACE OF WIDE CULTURAL DIVERSITY. THE FAIR HAS BEEN A SETTING FOR MANY TO SHOWCASE THEIR TALENTS AND SKILLS. PERFORMANCES BY SCHOOL BANDS, LOCAL HULAUS (HULA), AND GARDENING EXHIBITIONS REPRESENT MANY OF THE ACTIVITIES WHICH TAKE PLACE AT THE FAIR. THE ORGANIZATION IS CURRENTLY EXPANDING THE RANGE OF DISPLAYS TO INCLUDE ANIMAL EXHIBITS IN AN EFFORT TO HIGHLIGHT LOCAL FARMS AND ACTIVITIES. PROCEEDS FROM THE FAIR REPRESENT A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF THE ORGANIZATIONS OVERALL REVENUE. THE PROCEEDS WILL BE USED TO ESTABLISH BOTH A TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT FUND SOURCE TO ENSURE THE ONGOING SUPPORT FOR THE HILO COUNTY FAIR.

IMPROVEMENTS TO THE HILO COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS. THE HAWAII COUNTY FAIR FOUNDATION IS DEDICATED TO IMPROVING THE FACILITIES OF THE FAIRGROUNDS AND EVENT LOCATION. THE ORGANIZATION STRIVES TO CONSERVE THE AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL ROOTS OF THE HILO COMMUNITY WHILE CONTINUOUSLY WORKING TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS WHICH REFLECT THESE LONG TRADITIONS. THE ORGANIZATION HAS BUDGETED 80,000 OF EXPENSES OVER THE THREE YEAR PERIOD OF 2018 THROUGH 2020 TO CONSTRUCT AND IMPROVE ON THE FAIRGROUNDS.

GRANTS TO STUDENTS AND KAPUNA PROGRAMS. THE HAWAII COUNTY FAIR FOUNDATION IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF A SMALL AND CONNECTED RURAL COMMUNITY. THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS HAS ESTABLISHED A SCHOLARSHIP FUND WHEREBY STUDENTS PLANNING TO ATTEND AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION MAY APPLY FOR 500 OR 1,000 GRANTS. THE HAWAII COUNTY FAIR FOUNDATION, AS PART OF THEIR STEWARDSHIP WITH THE HILO COMMUNITY, WORKS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF ITS KAPUNA (SENIOR CITIZENS) LIVING IN AND AROUND HILO. A TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS IS GATHERED BY THE ORGANIZATION AND FUNDS ARE PROVIDED TO SENIOR CENTERS TO ADD OR IMPROVE FACILITIES, WITH A FOCUS ON FITNESS AND HEALTH.
