Hawaii Island Community Development Corporation was established on July 7, 1986 to provide families with low and moderate income with adequate housing and to acquire, construct, and provide housing and related facilities suited to the special needs and living requirements of eligible occupants.
HICDC has been developing Self Help Housing since 1992. Through 2019, HIDC completed 331 homes for low income families almost all of which are on the Island of Hawaii. In 2019, HICDC completed the 30 lot Puualala Village subdivision for future self-help housing projects. HICDC also worked with families to close 20 USDA Rural Development 502 loans for the Puualala Village project.
