Project Vision Hawaii is a nonprofit that works in partnership with the people of Hawaii to promote health, happiness and dignity for all. We offer 6 mobile service units, which are literal and figurative vehicles for access to health and human services. Our success and positive reputation come largely because of two unique components: (1) we bring resources directly to access-challenged communities via mobile service units; and (2) services are always 100% free of charge to participants.
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life by improving vision, preventing blindness, and advancing medical knowledge through community-based research. We focus on the underserved populations in Hawaii-many who have very limited access to eye specialists in the state, and the general public, providing free vision retinal eye screenings in our state-of-the-art Project Vision buses and trailers.
Project Vision Hawaii's "HiEHiE Hospitality Project" (HiEHiE) brings hot showers, restroom facilities and hygiene products to people who are homeless on the islands of Oahu and Hawaii. Through the process of meeting the basic need, HiEHiE becomes a gathering place, connecting people with services in collaboration with over 30 partners.
Project Vision Hawaii's "Better Vision for Keiki" program provides vision screenings, follow-up exams and glasses as needed to children in low-income schools across Hawaii. The goal of this program is to provide opportunities for better vision for Hawaii's children. We work collaboratively to vision screen kids across the State each year, providing glasses for keiki who attend Title 1 schools.
SNAP is a program where Project Vision Hawai'i can be a vehicle, literally and figuratively, to food resources. The program administers the Federal and State food stamp program on the island of Maui. This outreach is conducted as part of ongoing health outreach programs, including 1) community health screening events, 2) educational events and 3) on-site vision screenings in public schools.
