We sponsor educational programs, fund charitable activities and support practices which nurture love, wisdom, wellness, and peace within individuals and families, and which promote understanding and connectedness among communities.
In 2019 PREF continued to sponsor peace-promoting educational programs. The PREF owned Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden (HQCG) continues to be the location for peace programs, interfaith meetings and peace-promoting concerts. Also, now more faith groups in Kona are holding their religious services at the HQCG. The list of faith groups holding religious meetings at the HQCG on a regular basis includes:Kona Beth Shalom; Kona Family Church;Self Realization Fellowship;Ecumenical Church of Light; and Ukraine Hawaii Gospel ChurchIn conjunction with the United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week of 2019 PREF sponsored an Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on February 18, 2019, with most of the above, and other clergy from various churches in the Kona area. On March 1, 2019 world famous soprano singer Seiko Lee gave a concert to a packed audience at the HQCG. Along with Seiko were Japanese dancers who performed the unique dance called "Hula Ballet". Seiko is president of the Seiko Lee Project N.P.O which supports relief efforts around the world including the Japan 2011 Tsunami relief efforts and building schools in Africa.The concert on March 1st was in support of the local Kona non-profit group called "Fukushima Kids" which helps kids in Fukushima, Japan deal with harmful radiation from the Fukushima nuclear disaster.A 3rd Generation Tai Chi Instructor continues to hold weekly Tai Chi classes at the HQCG on Monday nights. There is a weekly meditation meeting on Wednesday nights at the HQCG. They teach "Passage Meditation" as taught by Eknath Easwaran founder of the Blue Mountain Center of Medtitation. On November 26, 2019 PREF, along with the Kona Family Church, helped sponsor the 18th Annual Thanksgiving Interfaith Concert. The Concert took place at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Kona. Eleven different faith groups performed music and song in celebration of gratitude on the Thanksgiving Holiday. 200 people were in attendance. The Concert raised 253 lbs of canned food and $307 in cash for the non-profit Hawaii Food Basket in Kona.
