Organizations Filed Purposes: To advance women's empowerment and gender equality to tackle climate change, food insecurity and poverty within enabling environments. WOCAN strengthens capacities of organizations and individuals for gender integration and leadership. It owns and maintains the W+ Standard to measure, quantify, certify and monetize women's empowerment benefits within projects, generating revenue for women's groups and organizations.

Training: WOCAN's contract with the Swedish embassy in Thailand to deliver gender training and coaching to their partners across Asia was a major focus of WOCAN this year. Trainings on Gender-integrated Planning were held for 20 organizations, including those working on forestry, fisheries, disaster and climate change. Other organizations in Asia hired WOCAN to deliver their Gender-integrated Planning and Reframing Leadership courses to their staff and partners. Based on the successful delivery of this training, the Swedish Embassy extended the contract for another year. Additional training courses were held for ICIMOD, the Swiss Development Cooperation and RECOFTC on women's leadership.

Research WOCAN carried out research for the UNDP Asia/Pacific on gender and climate finance, attending regional workshops and conducting initial work on how to develop a gender responsive climate cost benefit analysis tool. This work continues into 2020. WOCAN conducted gender assessments and developed Gender Action Plans for 2 entities of the Green Climate Fund in Uruguay and the Organization of Economic Caribbean States. It also conducted gender assessments for UNDP in Cambodia.

W+ StandardWork to align the W+ Standard with the Voluntary Carbon Standard continued, to develop common templates and easily enable the W+ lable to align to carbon offset credits issued by the VCS. The W+ Coordinator and WOCAN Ex. Director developed new marketing materials, initiated and followed up on over 50 leads of projects that expressed interest to apply the W+ Standard to their existing projects. WOCAN prepared the documents and carried out baseline and monitoring required for the CSR project in South Africa. Three meetings were held with the W+ Advisory Council, and WOCAN provided inputs to the Aluminium Council, the Forest Stewardship Council and the UN ECE Working Group on Gender in Standards. Presentations about the W+ were made during the UNFCCC COP in Madrid, in events of the Green Climate Fund, UNWOMEN and other bodies and during NY Climate Week. The Women and Climate Impact Fund was presented to many potential funders.
