Organizations Filed Purposes: The mission of the University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA) is to advance the discipline of risk management in higher education.

Promote advancement & application of effective risk management in higher ed institutions

To provide a forum for the exchange of information between college and university risk, insurance and/or employee benefits managers; to encourage the use of common concepts and practices in the organization and implementation of a risk and/or employee management program; to provide opportunities for familiarizing college and university risk, insurance and employee benefits managers with current developments in related industries; and to develop and maintain interest on a nationwide basis in continuous improvement of the principles and practices of risk, insurance, and employee benefits management and corporate loss control in higher education, and to foster and maintain the pursuit of these functions as a profession with professional ideals and standards.

Regional ConferenceEach spring we host a series of conferences held in a variety of locations around the US. These one and two day conferences provide targeted educational sessions as well as professional networking opportunities closer to home. Attendance totaled 412 from the following cities: - 79 attendees from Richmond, VA - 82 attendees from St. Louis, MO - 153 attendees from Providence, RI - 98 attendees from Portland, OR

Annual ConferenceURMIA's Annual Conference provides higher education risk management and insurance professionals with a variety of job-specific benefits and a high return on investment. The 2019 conference was held in Boston and was the finale of a year's worth of celebrating our 50th year. The conference featured over 50 breakout sessions, a robust pre-conference line of including a foundations session targeted to attendees who are newer to higher education risk management, an Enterprise Risk Management Compliance Program and a Crisis Management for Study Abroad Program. Social events included our Presidents Reception to welcome new attendees, a golf outing, our Opening Reception and our Closing Event at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. General Sessions included an Association Highlights Update, a special session on the Boston Marathon Bombing from a Higher Education perspective, a Regulatory Update by the American Council on Education and a final session on Taking Long Term View on Risks That Change Higher Education.Record breaking attendence totaled 1,011 attendees detailed below: - 384 Affiliates - 535 Institutions - 92 Retirees and Guests
