The mission of CRADLES is to cultivate responsible adults by developing leadership, education and self-sufficiency. CRADLES envisions student parents taking their place in local communities as productive citizens within healthy family units. CRADLES of Clay County Inc., a family learning ministry, provides developmentally appropriate child care for parents to enable them to improve their education. Parenting and mentoring are also a part of the program.
The mission of CRADLES is to provide children with developmentally age appropriate learning experiences while providing parents with the support they need to further their education and/or continue in the workforce. 42 children were served at two sites in Clay County. During the 2020 year CRADLES was closed for approximately 11 weeks because of the pandemic. Both children and their parents continued to make many achievements. 95 40 of 42 of the children who were assessed were at or above normal milestones on developmental checklists. The children who were below their age level were referred to First Steps or Developmental Preschool. Twelve children were provided with tuition assistance. The Clay City site was able to also provide child care for working parents who did not qualify for child care assistance and paid the full child care fees. There was a great need for child care opportunities in the southern of the county. All parents received information and resources to improve their parenting skills during the pandemic.
