The mission of Bolt for the Heart is to serve the community, particularly those affected by heart disease, through education, financial support and direct assistance. Through sponsored events, such as family runs, funding is obtained which allows us to purchase automated external defibrillators and donate these AEDs to first responders and other non-profit organizations. Having an AED has been proved to reduce the risk of death from sudden cardiac arrest.
The primary fundraising event of Bolt for the Heart is a family run/walk on Thanksgiving morning where the community is invited to learn about sudden cardiac arrest and its prevention. This program allows the community to participate through donations and sponsorships. The funds collected are then used to purchase AEDs which are donated to other non-profits such as schools, churches and first responders.
Individuals and companies are invited to support their local law enforcement agencies by purchasing an AED to be donated to a local police/sheriff department and placed in a patrol vehicle.
In 2019 a second Bolt event was presented in La Porte County. Similar to the Thanksgiving run, this 5K is held in North west Indiana and serves the community there with support regarding sudden cardiac arrest.
