The Indiana Artisan Carmel store is a 2500 square-foot store strategically located in the Carmel Arts and Design District, a favorite shopping destination for residents of Carmel and other parts of Greater Indianapolis, as well as out-of-town visitors. Staffing of the store is by the President of Indiana Artisan and various artisans, which results in customers having an opportunity to speak directly to artisans. Nearly all of the merchandise is on consignment from the artisans, who receive 60 per cent of the sales price while the store receives 40 per cent. This gives the artisans a retail outlet they don't have to manage, and is an effective teaching tool for how they can expand their businesses. Expenses include President's time and promotional costs which are fully allocated to Carmel.
The Indiana Artisan Viewbook is a 48-page, four-color publication illustrating the work of Indiana's highest-quality artisans and listing contact information for each. In 2020, 38,000 copies were printed, 22,000 of which were bundled with TravelIN Magazine. The remaining copies were distributed through individual Indiana Artisans and both Indiana Artisan stores. The Viewbook also serves in normal years as the printed program for the annual Marketplaces.
The Indiana Artisan French Lick Resort Store is a 378 square-foot retail space inside the French Lick Resort Hotel. Before the pandemic hit, it was open daily. After the Resort was closed for approximately four months due to the pandemic, the store reopened for three days per week (Friday-Sunday). As Resort business improves, the store may open for more days. The store is staffed by four part-time employees, and, though small, carries the work of 60 per cent of the artisans, some of whom are not in the Carmel store, though most are. Like Carmel, it provides and opportunity for Artisans to have a retail outlet they don't have to manage. Like Carmel, Artisans receive 60% of sales.
