VERNON, PETERSBURG, FT. BRANCH, PRINCETON, OAKLAND CITY, BOONVILLE, AND REO IN INDIANA. THE CLINIC ALSO HAS LOCATIONS IN HENDERSON, MORGANFIELD AND OWENSBORO, KENTUCKY. THE CLINICS SERVED 784,300 PATIENT VISITS FROM OCTOBER 1, 2018 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2019.
THE RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF DEACONESS CLINIC ASSISTS DEACONESS CLINIC'S MORE THAN 160+ PHYSICIANS, AS WELL AS OTHER PHYSICIANS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY IN GAINING ACCESS TO LEADING EDGE MEDICAL SCIENCE AND NEW TREATMENTS FOR ACUTE AND CHRONIC ILLNESSES. THE INSTITUTE WAS AWARDED 31 NEW AND EXPANDED CLINICAL RESEARCH GRANTS THIS YEAR TO STUDY INVESTIGATIONAL DRUGS AND DEVICES ACROSS 14 FIELDS OF MEDICINE INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, NEW TREATMENTS FOR HEART DISEASE, STROKE, BREAST CANCER, LUNG CANCER, PROSTATE CANCER, CHILDHOOD OBESITY, DIABETES, PEANUT ALLERGIES, ATOPIC DERMATITIS, CHRONIC MIGRAINES, INFANT NUTRITION, AND NEW DIAGNOSTIC TECHNOLOGY FOR COLORECTAL CANCER. THE NEW RESEARCH GRANTS PROVIDED TREATMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND PREVENTATIVE HEALTH SERVICES FOR 1,162 PATIENTS. IN ALL, THE NEWLY AWARDED GRANTS THIS YEAR TOTALED $4.3 MILLION TO COVER THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CONDUCT OF THE CLINICAL TRIALS WITHIN THE REGION. 715 PATIENTS WERE SCREENED FOR CLINICAL TRIAL QUALIFICATION THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WITH 669 NEW PATIENTS ENROLLED ONTO CLINICAL PROTOCOLS, RESULTING IN 3,324 RESEARCH RELATED PATIENT VISITS. THE RESEARCH INSTITUTE CONTINUED ITS ACCESS TO ADVANCE CANCER TREATMENTS THROUGH THE NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE'S NATIONAL COMMUNITY ONCOLOGY PROGRAM AND THE NCI MATCH PROGRAM. THE INSTITUTE BEGAN DISCUSSIONS WITH THE INDIANA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE TO PROVIDE RESEARCH SUPPORT FOR EXPANSION OF ITS CLINICAL TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE THROUGHOUT SOUTHWESTERN INDIANA. THE INSTITUTE OVERSAW THE TRAINING OF FOUR NEW CLINICAL INVESTIGATORS IN 2019, INCLUDING THEIR RESEARCH CERTIFICATIONS IN GOOD CLINICAL PRACTICE AND THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN SUBJECTS.
