To find a cure for Huntington's Disease
Johns Hopkins School of Medicine - Donation used by Dr. Wenzhen Duan who has found the gene editing tool (RCas) that removes the defective part of the Huntington gene.
Jodi McBride at the Oregon Health and Science University/Oregon National Primate Research Center, Portland, OR - The donation will be used for the 18 monkeys that have benn injected with mHTT (using a previously developed capsid for mHTT delivery that proves to be more of an effective transport). They are evaluating all monkeys for cognitive tasks, motor tasks, anxiety/depressive-like behaviors. An increase of dopamine could affect their anxiety. The funding is needed for the added PET scans to study the dopamine dysfunction over time. This data will help to partner with others and push along the biomarker development. The experiments using the 18 monkeys must be completed to move onto the human clinical trials.
Glyoscience Research Inc. - The donation will be used to continue the optimization of extraction and purification of GM1. They are continuing to study the HD lines in cells to determine the optimal dosage of GM1. Lastly, they will use mice to compare the ovine to the bovine GM1.
