THE INDIANA PHARMACISTS ASSOCIATION SUPPORTS ITS MEMBERS BY ADVOCATING AND ADVANCING THE PROFESSION OF PHARMACY IN INDIANA.
THE INDIANA PHARMACISTS ASSOCIATION, THROUGH OF THE EFFORTS OF ITS LEGISLATIVE & REGULATORY COUNCIL, AND WORK WITH A CONTRACTED LOBBYING FIRM, PASSED THREE PHARMACY BILLS IN THE 2019 GENERAL ASSEMBLY SESSION. P.L. 28 ALLOWED PRESCRIPTIONS TO BE TRANSMITTED ELECTRONICALLY AND ALLOWS PRESCRIPTIONS TO BE TRANSFERRED UPON REQUEST PRIOR TO AN INITIAL FILL. P.L. 246 ALLOWS NON-RESIDENT PHARMACIES TO SUPERVISE REMOTE LOCATIONS IN INDIANA; PERMITS A RETAIL PHARMACY TO OFFER DRUGS TO A LTC FACILITY; AND, UPDATES REQUIREMENTS FOR REMOTE DISPENSING FACILITIES, AMONG OTHER ITEMS. P.L. 247 CLARIFIES THE ABILITY OF PHARMACISTS TO MAKE PRESCRIPTION ADAPTATIONS AND ALLOWS PHARMACISTS TO PRESCRIBE CERTAIN DEVICES, AMONG OTHER ITEMS.
IPA HOSTED SEVERAL MEETINGS IN 2019. LEGISLATIVE DAY WAS HELD AT THE HILTON HOTEL AND PROVIDED MEMBERS AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET WITH KEY LAWMAKERS. THE NEW PRACTITIONERS COUNCIL HOSTED THE FUTURE PHARMACISTS CONVENTION FOR PHARMACY STUDENTS IN APRIL. NAPLEX AND MPJE REVIEW WERE HELD IN MAY FOR GRADUATING PHARMACY STUDENTS. A ONE-DAY CE CONFERENCE WAS HELD IN SEPTEMBER. IN OCTOBER, A RESIDENCY SHOWCASE WAS HELD ALLOWING P4 STUDENTS TO MEET WITH PROSPECTIVE PHARMACY RESIDENCY PROGRAMS FROM ACROSS THE MIDWEST. IPA, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PURDUE, HOSTED A RECEPTION FOR 600 PEOPLE AT ASHP'S MIDYEAR MEETING.
IPA'S ANNUAL MEETING AND EXPO WAS HELD IN APRIL 2019 WITH APPROXIMATELY 200 IN ATTENDANCE. THE TWO-DAY PROGRAM PROVIDED 10 HOURS OF CE, HOSTED AN AWARDS LUNCHEON, EXHIBITOR EXHIBITION, SEVERAL NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES, A FUNDRAISER FOR THE PHARMACY EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND A FUNDRAISER FOR THE PHARMACISTS POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE.
