Faith in Indiana (formerly IndyCAN) is a catalyst for faith communities and marginalized peoples to act collectively for racial and economic justice in Indiana. FaithIN develops civic leaders directly impacted by inequality, awakens the electorate, amplifies the prophetic voice, and forges strategic coalitions across Indiana to build the power of those directly impacted by racial and economic injustice. We work to end gun violence and the mass criminalization of people of color, protect immigrant rights, and promote economic dignity by organizing excluded workers, people of color, youth, returning citizens, and immigrants to drive policy and resource solutions that shape their lives.
Faith in Indiana is working for an Indiana where everyone belongs and every family thrives. In 2018, we made great progress on our Families First Policy Agenda which includes; Restorative Justice, Immigrant Inclusion, Healthcare For All, Caring Economy, and a Fair Democracy. Highlights include; There are less people in jail, recidivism is down and homicides are on track to see significant reduction in multiple cities this year, as a direct result of Faith in Indianas education efforts to shift criminal justice from mass incarceration toward treatment. In Indianapolis, South Bend, and Allen County criminal justice redirected millions to treatment services instead of incarceration including proven gun violence reduction strategies, pre-booking jail diversion programs, and mental health and addiction services. Community leaders voiced concerns that ended in defeat of two proposals to build immigrant detention camps that could have devastated the community. We educated our community about the critical need for healthcare for all and promoted opportunities to expand access to healthcareCivic Leadership Development Faith in Indiana trained hundreds of volunteers who reached tens of thousands of people through public meetings, large scale trainings, face-to-face conversations, small and large meetings to shape our vision for the state and then engage with public officials, decision-makers influencers to share this vision. Prophetic Voices Faith in Indiana trained hundreds of multi-racial multi-faith clergy who engaged tens of thousands of returning citizens, immigrants, and people in poverty to shape the public narrative of abundance, inclusion, and belonging thru preaching, teaching, earned media, and digital story telling.
