Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO SUPPORT ECONOMICALLY CHALLENGED COMMUNITIES AND THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGH THE USE OF BICYCLES. WE USE TRAINING, AFFORDABLE BICYCLES, AND COMPETITIONS TO TEACH LIFE SKILLS, ESPECIALLY TO THE YOUTH OF THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE. WE SUPPORT USE OF BICYCLES AMONG PEOPLE OF ALL AGES.
DURING 2018, FREEWHEELINS EARN-A-BIKE PROGRAM SERVED 150 YOUNG PEOPLE. EARN-A-BIKE IS AN INTRODUCTION TO FREEWHEELIN, BICYCLE MAINTENANCE, AND RIDING SAFETY. WITH A FOCUS ON PROBLEM-SOLVING, PERSISTENCE, AND RESPECT FOR OTHERS, YOUTH ALSO DEVELOP SKILLS THAT WILL SERVE THEM ON AND OFF THE BIKE. THE PROGRAM INCLUDES GROUP RIDES AND CULMINATES IN A HANDS-ON TEST. BY DEMONSTRATING THEY HAVE THE SKILLS WE TEACH IN CLASS, YOUTH EARN THE BIKE THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON, A HELMET, AND A LOCK.
FREEWHEELINS YOUTH EMPLOYMENT APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM (YEAP) ALLOWS YOUNG ADULTS AGES 14 TO 22 TO PARTICIPATE IN A BUSINESS MENTORING, TEACHING, AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM. BUILDING ON BASIC HARD SKILLS (HOW TO WORK WITH OTHERS, LEAD A GROUP PROJECT, ADVANCED BICYCLE MACHANICS, AND CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS), THIS TRAINING IS COUPLED WITH LIFE-LONG CAREER AND EMPLOYMENT KNOWLEDGE. THIS CAN INCLUDE RESUME WRITING, INTERVIEWING TECHNIQUES, BUSINESS MARKETING, AND MANAGEMENT PHILIOSPHIES. YOUTH ARE COORDINATED FOR EMPLOYMENT AND OUTPLACEMENT WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND LIVING-WAGE ROLES THAT FIT THEIR TALENT AND SKILLS. EIGHT INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED IN THE YEAP PROGRAM IN 2018.
FREEWHEELINS RIDING PROGRAM OFFERED REGULAR RIDES FROM APRIL TO SEPTEMBER TO ENCOURAGE AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE AND TEACH SAFE RIDING TO YOUTH VIA FUN DESTINATION RIDES. 190 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN 2018.
