Health and Science Innovations seeks to promote research and development of new technologies among health, science and engineering students, educators, and professionals as well as facilitating networking opportunities between students and professionals. This allows us to provide the guidance and resources needed to develop successful products and services. Health and Science Innovations values the importance of technological advancement as an essential factor for the continuous development and enhancement of humankind.
The 2018 Young Innovators Quest Summer Program was offered at IUPUI from June 7 to June 29,2018. Seventeen outstanding high school studnets interested in STEM (science, technology,engineering, and mathmatetics) participated alongside 5 undergraduate students. This programoffered the following experiences among others: science and engineering research, direct exposureto a variety of professional careers, innovation projects, and exposure to the college experience.A typical day at YiQ provided the stuents with a combination of two to four STEM and work-realted skills workshops, 2-3 hours of team research and project development, 1-2 hours of socialand recreational activities, and occasionaly an industry visit field trip was provided. Studentsworked in teams of 3-4 to identify a challenging problem and to develop an innovative product orsolution. Students were guided by mentors and creativity and innovation workshops like, "What isInnovation." In this activity they learned about the different stages of innovation and through thisactivity they learned how to apply concepts and develop teamwork skills.The STEM related ativities that the students participated in, included hands-on workshops in labsafety, forensics, biology, genetics, creativity, innovation, neurology, desgin, scientificpresentations, pharmaceutics, and engineering. During industry visits, students we able to see howproductions like medicines, truck engines, and prototypes and designed and produced. During eachvisit students were given the opportunity to meet and interact with professionals and executivesfrom different fields and companies.
IDEAA (Innovation, Design, Engineering, Advance Manufacturing) Summer Program: provided an excelent opportuniity for students to leanr and start a career in product design, engineering and manufacturing. This four-week program prepared students for college techinical courses and for interships, through six courses that introduced students into design and Rapid Prototyping. Students also had time to work on projects, whcih provided them with hands-on experience. Students acquired abilities in the areas of:1. Design2. Computer Aided Engineering (CAE)3. Prototyping4. 3D Printing5. High Tech Production6. Laser Cutting7. Computer Aided Design (CAD)8. 3D Animation9. Product Development10. Entrepeneurship
IDEAA Partnership: (Innovations, Design, Engineering, Advanced research, direct exposure to a variety of professional careers, innovative projects, and college experience. Manufacturing and Automation) Partnership is a program created to raise awareness and promote careers related to the design, prototyping andmanufacturing of parts and products; to inspire and motivate K-16 students, their parents and adult learners to pursue such careers; and to provide students (grades 9-16) with the necessary skills, resources, and experiences that will successfully allow them to join the workforce in a career path that leads to financial stability.
