Organizations Filed Purposes: The House Rabbit Society (HRS) rescues abandoned rabbits, provides veterinary care and finds them permanent adoptive homes. HRS educates people about rabbits, provides services and supplies for the care of rabbits, and provides low-cost rabbit spay/neuter in order to reduce the number of abandoned rabbits.

The House Rabbit Society rescues abandoned rabbits and finds permanent adoptive homes. The House Rabbit Society educates people about the importance of companion rabbits' need for a space indoors and how to care for, feed and groom companion rabbits.

Adoption program, including rabbit care expenses & veterinary care: HRS took in 175 rabbits in CA. New adoptive homes were found for 167 rabbits. Sanctuary was provided for 43 rabbits. 21 municipal shelters and humane societies were assisted in CA. 175 incoming rabbits were given health exams and were spayed/neutered before being placed for adoption. All sick and injured animals were given veterinary care and medical treatment. Construction of on-site surgery suite was completed in 2019, part-time vet and registered veterinary technician hired, and starting in August, all surgeries performed in-house, including spay/neuters, amputations, dental extractions, and enucleations. 192 vet exams provided to rabbits from other rabbit rescue groups.

Emergency Rescue & Chapter Grants: 13 Chapter Grants and Emergency Rescue Grants were made to 13 other rabbit rescue organizations to provide vet care for a total 1,002 rabbits, and includes one HRS chapter for repairs to their facility, so they can continue helping rabbits.

Education program: Education program included educational presentations, free rabbit educational materials were mailed and handed out in vet offices, at events, and at the headquarters in Richmond, CA. Two issues of the House Rabbit Journal were produced and distributed to members. Website rabbit.org maintained with educational materials & resources. 49 e-newsletters produced and emailed to supporters. Rabbit health and care consultations through phone calls, emails, and social media. Participated in and/or presented or tabled at 8 conferences: NAVC, SE Bunfest, Sonoma Bunfest, Exoticscon, San Diego Bunnyfest, Midwest Bunfest, Vancouver Rabbit Rescue & Advocacy's Rabbit Festival, Best Friends National Conference. Ran an educational short PSA video about not buying a rabbit at Easter, prior to the holiday weekend, using Facebook ad placements targeting people in states with chain retailers selling rabbits. Licensed HRS Educators provided local support and education in their community.
