Organizations Filed Purposes: TO PROMOTE VALUES THAT COMBAT DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR ORIGINATING FROM PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL AND TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC OF THE SOCIAL, ECONOMICAL AND PERSONAL IMPACT OF THE PORNOGRAPHY INDUSTRY.

THE YEAR 2019 WAS A VERY BUSY ONE FOR AFA-IN WITH SEVERAL SIGNIFICANT EVENTS FOR THIS ORGANIZATION. PERHAPS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ORGANIZATIONAL EVENT FOR CAME IN MAY WHEN WE MOVED OUR OFFICE (WITHIN OUR OFFICE COMPLEX) TO A LARGER SPACE. IT HAS ADDITIONAL ROOM THAT WE CAN NOW USE FOR A CLASS OR MEETING. IT COMFORTABLY SEATS AS MANY AS 25 PEOPLE. THIS HAS ALLOWED US TO HAVE AND HOST SEVERAL MEETINGS IN OUR OWN OFFICE WITHOUT HAVING TO FIND A DIFFERENT LOCATION FOR SMALL OR MODEST-SIZED EVENTS OFF SITE. AS HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE CASE THE YEAR STARTED OFF WITH OUR ROLE OF OBSERVING LEGISLATION, INFORMING OUR SUPPORTERS OF STATEHOUSE ACTIVITIES AND BEING A VOICE IN THE INDIANA GENERAL ASSEMBLY. THERE WERE SEVERAL HOUSE AND SENATE BILLS THAT AFA OF INDIANA MONITORED CLOSELY THROUGHOUT THE SESSION. AFA OF INDIANA'S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TESTIFIED ON SEVERAL BILLS DURING THE SESSION IN VARIOUS COMMITTEE HEARINGS. ONE OF THE KEY ISSUES IN THE 2019 INDIANA GENERAL ASSEMBLY WAS SB 356 WHICH ALLOWED THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILD SERVICES TO WORK WITH OTHER NON- GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES TO CREATE A "CARE PORTAL." THIS ALLOWS CHURCHES AND CHARITIES TO HELP MEET WELFARE NEEDS IN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITY IF DCS CONTACTS PARTICIPATING CHURCHES ABOUT NEEDS FOR SUCH THINGS AS DIAPERS, BABY FORMULA, CLOTHING OR OTHER ITEMS FOR THOSE IN NEED. THIS KIND OF LEGISLATION HAS BEEN PASSED IN 18 OTHER STATES. SB 365 BILL PASSED AND WAS SIGNED INTO LAW. SEVERAL INDIANA CHURCHES ARE NOW HELPING MEET NEEDS BY WORKING WITH DCS, THANKS TO THIS LAW. AFA-IN WORKED CLOSELY ON THIS LEGISLATION, MEETING WITH LEGISLATORS AND INFORMING OUR SUPPORTERS ABOUT IT. WE WERE ALSO A PART OF THE BILL SIGNING CEREMONY WITH GOVERNOR HOLCOMB. ANOTHER BIG ISSUE FOR AFA-IN INVOLVED IMPROVING CIVICS EDUCATION THROUGH SB 266. THIS BILL REQUIRED ALL INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO TAKE THE SAME BASIC HISTORY AND CIVICS TEST THAT AMERICA REQUIRES OF ALL NEW CITIZENS. MORE THAN TWO-DOZEN STATES HAVE A SIMILAR LAW. THE BILL PASSED THE SENATE 31-17. THE HOUSE PASSED IT ALMOST UNANIMOUSLY. LATER IT WAS SIGNED INTO LAW BY THE GOVERNOR. AFTER THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION ENDED, AFA-IN BEGAN TO FOCUS ON EXPANDING OUR EMAIL REACH WITH A PROFESSIONAL MARKETING GROUP. OVER THE SUMMER WE GREW OUR FREE WEEKLY EMAIL LIST BY NEARLY 10,000 NEW NAMES. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF WORKING WITH THIS NEW LIST WE TRIMMED IT DOWN TO AN ACTIVE LIST OF REGULAR READERS, WHICH GREW OUR EXISTING LIST BY 50% AS THE YEAR ENDED. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT GROWTH NUMBER FOR 2019. IN AUGUST WE RELEASED A NEW, PROFESSIONALLY MADE, 3-MINUTE PROMOTIONAL VIDEO FOR AFA-IN WHICH WE USED AS A PART OF THIS EMAIL MARKETING OUTREACH. THOUSANDS OF HOOSIERS VIEWED OUR PROMOTIONAL VIDEO. AFA-IN IS STILL A PART OF A LAWSUIT SEEKING A RELIGIOUS-CONSCIENCE EXEMPTION FROM THE CARMEL, INDIANAPOLIS, BLOOMINGTON, AND COLUMBUS HUMAN RIGHTS ORDINANCES UNDER OUR STATE'S STRONG RELIGIOUS FREE-EXERCISE PROTECTIONS UNDER RFRA, OUR STATE CONSTITUTION, AND A RANGE OF STATE AND FEDERAL CONSTITUTIONAL CASES AND PROTECTIONS. IN OCTOBER WE FINALLY HAD OUR OFFICIAL COURT HEARING IN HAMILTON COUNTY AFTER FILING OUR ORIGINAL COMPLAINT FOUR YEARS EARLIER. UNFORTUNATELY, IN DECEMBER THE JUDGE RULED THAT WE DID NOT HAVE STANDING IN THE CASE. WE HAVE APPEALED THIS TO THE COURT OF APPEALS. IN DECEMBER AFA-IN HOSTED A CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR SOME OF OUR DONORS IN THE INDIANAPOLIS AREA. NEARLY 50 PEOPLE ATTENDED THIS DINNER AND HEARD FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND STATE REPRESENTATIVE WOODY BURTON AND STATE SENATOR VICTORIA SPARTZ ABOUT THE WORK OF AFA-IN. AFA OF INDIANA'S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CONDUCTED APPROXIMATELY 45 MEDIA INTERVIEWS IN 2019. HE ALSO SPOKE TO VARIOUS GROUPS AROUND THE STATE INCLUDING CHURCHES, HOME SCHOOL CO-OPS AND SUPPORT GROUPS, TEA PARTY GROUPS, STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. AFA OF INDIANA CONTINUED TO GROW WITH MORE FOLLOWERS ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE AND TWITTER SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS. EACH WEEK, THOUSANDS OF HOOSIERS RECEIVE OUR WEEKLY EMAIL. EVERY MONTH, AROUND 2,000 HOOSIERS RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTER OR DONOR LETTER MAILINGS.
