MEMBER RELATIONS THROUGH MARCH 2020, ICI STAFF VISITED WITH MEMBERS AT THEIR OFFICES, VIA TELEPHONE OR AS THEY ATTENDED ASSOCIATION MEETINGS TO DETERMINE NEEDS AND CONCERNS AND TO EXPLAIN THE VALUE OF VARIOUS PROGRAMS OFFERED BY ICI. AFTER MARCH, THESE CONVERSATIONS SWITCHED TO VIRTUAL PLATFORMS, WITH ICI STAFF LOGGING MORE THAN 2,500 HOURS OF ZOOM MEETINGS. THESE CONVERSATIONS INCLUDED MEMBERS FROM ACROSS THE STATE.IN FEBRUARY ICI JOINED WITH FIVE OTHER INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS TO HOST A JOINT INDUSTRY CONFERENCE FOR A WEEK OF EDUCATIONAL MEETINGS AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES. 184 INDIVIDUALS ATTENDED THE MEETING, APPROXIMATELY 93% OF WHOM REPRESENTING ICI MEMBER COMPANIES. A POST-CONFERENCE SURVEY INDICATED A HIGH DEGREE OF OVERALL SATISFACTION.IN MARCH, ICI PIVOTED TO VIRTUAL MEETINGS ONLY, HOSTING 64 VIRTUAL MEETINGS OR EVENTS WITH 6246 PARTICIPANTS. EVEN WITH EVENT CANCELLATIONS OUR MEETING ATTENDANCE WAS UP BY 3% OVER 2019, AND BY REMOVING CANCELLED/NEW EVENTS FROM 2019/2020 CALENDAR FOR FAIR COMPARISON, MEETING ATTENDANCE WAS UP 28%. TO CONNECT WITH MEMBERS DURING THE PANDEMIC, ICI USED A VARIETY OF COMMUNICATIONS METHODS AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES TO REACH MEMBERS. AN AVERAGE OF 2090 READ THE WEEKLY ICI NEWS NEWSLETTER. A NEW WEEKLY PODCAST NETTED ALMOST 3,000 PLAYS, AND IN LIEU OF OUR ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING, WE PRODUCED AN OVERVIEW VIDEO WITH NEARLY 400 VIEWS. IN ADDITION, IN 2020 ICI STAFF BEGAN A SYSTEMIC SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE PROGRAM OFFERINGS INCLUDING SHARING PHOTOS OF KEY MEETINGS, SAFETY TOOLBOX TALKS, NATIONAL WORK ZONE AWARENESS WEEK, ASSOCIATE MEMBERS AND TO PROMOTE THE PODCAST.TO PROVIDE VALUE FOR OUR ASSOCIATE MEMBERS WHO RELY HEAVILY ON ICI MEETINGS AND EVENTS FOR NETWORKING, ICI BEGAN AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER OUTREACH PROGRAM PROVIDING WEBSITE POP-UP ADS, NEWSLETTER LOGO PLACEMENT, SOCIAL MEDIA SHOUTOUTS, PODCAST SPONSORSHIPS AND A VIDEO SERIES TO HIGHLIGHT OUR VALUED ASSOCIATE MEMBERS.ALL 182 MEMBERS BENEFITED FROM THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE MEMBER RELATIONS PROGRAM.
WORKER & MANAGEMENT RELATIONS - UNDER THIS PROGRAM, ICI STAFF PARTICIPATES IN NEGOTIATIONS REPRESENTING MANAGEMENT WITH ONE OR MORE ORGANIZED LABOR UNION IN THE STATE. IN 2020 THERE WERE NO EXPIRING UNION CONTRACTS. ICI STAFF SOUGHT, FOUND AND PROVIDED A NUMBER OF TRUSTEE ORIENTATIONS TO MEMBERS AGREEING TO SERVE AS MANAGEMENT TRUSTEES ON VARIOUS LABOR/MANAGEMENT HEALTH AND WELFARE AND PENSION TRUSTS AND ALSO GRIEVANCE AND JOINT APPRENTICESHIP AND TRAINING COMMITTEES. TWO ICISAT UPDATE HR FORUM MEETINGS WERE PROVIDED TO MEMBERS, ONE INCLUDED AN UPDATE ON COVID AND FEDERAL LAWS THAT AFFECTED UNION CONTRACTORS AND THEIR UNION AGREEMENTS. APPROXIMATELY 100 MEMBERS PARTICIPATED AND ASKED OUR ATTORNEYS QUESTIONS. THE OTHER MEETING INCLUDED HARASSMENT AVOIDANCE TRAINING FOR CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYERS TO ROLLOUT TO THEIR FIELD EMPLOYEES.DEVELOPED AND PROMOTED 3 SEMINARS (FORT WAYNE, INDIANAPOLIS, FERDINAND) FOR MEMBERS HOW TO COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY ADMINISTRATION LAW REQUIRING EMPLOYERS TO START USING A FEDERAL DOT CLEARINGHOUSE DATABASE FOR TRACKING DOT DRIVER SUBSTANCE ABUSE TESTING. WE ALSO PROVIDED A SUCCESSION PLANNING SEMINAR FOR UNION SIGNATORY EMPLOYERS TO HELP THEM NAVIGATE THE ISSUES INVOLVED WITH SELLING OR TRANSFERRING THEIR BUSINESS OWNERSHIP. DUE TO COVID WE DID NOT PROVIDE MANAGEMENT TRUSTEE EDUCATIONAL MEETINGS THIS YEAR.ICI STAFF, WORKING WITH A THIRD-PARTY VENDOR, ADMINISTERED A SUBSTANCE ABUSE TESTING PROGRAM FOR THE APPROXIMATELY 80 MEMBERS THAT ARE SIGNATORY TO THE LABOR AGREEMENTS THAT CONTAIN THIS PROGRAM. 3,986 TESTS WERE ADMINISTERED ACROSS THE STATE OF INDIANA, WITH A 5.12% POSITIVE RATE. THE GOAL OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO IMPROVE WORKER SAFETY.ICI STAFF CREATED A PODCAST ON A TROUBLED PENSION FUND (TEAMSTERS CENTRAL STATES) AND THEN A SERIES OF 6 EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS ON WITHDRAWAL LIABILITY ASSOCIATED WITH MULTI-EMPLOYER DEFINED BENEFIT PENSION FUNDS, THAT WERE VERY WELL RECEIVED. WE INTERVIEWED AN ATTORNEY THAT SPECIALIZES IN ERISA AND CONTRACT LAW FOR THIS SERIES.ICI STAFF ALSO CREATES AND UPDATES UNION WAGE RATE SHEETS, UNION TERRITORY MAPS, AND UNION WEBSITES AND A DOCUMENT TO HELP MEMBER CONTRACTORS COMPLY WITH FASB REPORTING REQUIREMENTS REGARDING DEFINED BENEFIT FUNDING STATUS (RED, YELLOW, GREEN).SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETINGS AND SAFETY FORUM MEETINGS WERE HELD REGULARLY IN CENTRAL INDIANA SERVING THE ENTIRE ICI MEMBERSHIP. IN SOME CASES, THESE MEETINGS WERE HELD JOINTLY WITH VARIOUS STATE AGENCIES THAT HAVE JURISDICTION OVER CERTAIN ASPECTS OF SAFETY IN CONSTRUCTION.THE ICI SAFETY COMMITTEE ADMINISTERED A SAFETY AWARDS PROGRAM AND THE ANNUAL AWARDS WERE ANNOUNCED AT THE ICI MEMBERSHIP MEETING IN THE FALL OF 2020.ALL 182 MEMBERS BENEFITED FROM THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE WORKER MANAGEMENT RELATIONS PROGRAM.
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS - AT THE STATE LEVEL, ICI MONITORED ALL LEGISLATION INTRODUCED BY THE INDIANA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO DETERMINE POSSIBLE IMPACT TO MEMBERS. ONCE IMPACT WAS DETERMINED ICI LOBBIED TO EITHER DEFEAT OR PROMOTE LEGISLATION. ICI REPORTED TO ALL MEMBERS ON A REGULAR BASIS THROUGHOUT THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION THE STATUS OF PERTINENT ISSUES.ICI ALSO MONITORED CLOSELY THE HAPPENINGS AT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LEVEL. ICI STAYED IN CONTACT WITH ITS TWO NATIONAL ASSOCIATIONS (AGC OF AMERICA AND ARTBA) AND EVEN ATTENDED SEVERAL VIRTUAL, NATIONAL MEETINGS THAT INVOLVED ADVOCACY WITH THE INDIANA CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION. IN ADDITION, ICI SUPPORTED THE OPERATIONS OF THE ROAD INFORMATION PROGRAM AND ITS EFFORTS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A GOOD HIGHWAY SYSTEM AND THE U.S. ECONOMY.ICI FINANCIALLY SUPPORTED THE BUILD INDIANA COUNCIL, AN ENTITY THAT PROMOTES LONG-TERM, DEDICATED AND STABLE FUNDING FOR INDIANA'S HIGHWAY, ROADS, STREETS AND BRIDGES. ICI STAFF MANAGED THE OPERATIONS OF THIS ENTITY.THROUGHOUT THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION ICI MEMBERS WERE ALERTED TO SIGNIFICANT ISSUES AND ASKED TO CONTACT THEIR LEGISLATORS TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS.ALL 182 MEMBERS BENEFITED FROM THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS PROGRAM.
