THE INDIANA HUMANITIES COUNCIL CONNECTS PEOPLE, OPENS MINDS AND ENRICHES LIVES BY CREATING AND FACILITATING PROGRAMS THAT ENCOURAGE HOOSIERS TO THINK, READ AND TALK. AS A CONVENER, LEADER AND PARTNER, IH PROMOTES THE PUBLIC HUMANITIES AND ENGAGES INDIANA'S COMMUNITY OF MINDS TO CREATE STRONGER, MORE VIBRANT COMMUNITIES. USING LITERATURE, HISTORY, PHILOSOPHY AND OUR SHARED CULTURAL HERITAGE, THE COUNCIL STRIVES TO HELP HOOSIERS BETTER UNDERSTAND THEMSELVES AND THE WORLD AROUND THEM.

IH SUPPORTS HUMANITIES PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT INDIANA. THE ACTIVITIES OF IH ARE DESIGNED TO PROMOTE EDUCATIONAL PUBLIC PROGRAMS IN THE HUMANITIES THAT ENCOURAGE HOOSIERS TO THINK, READ AND TALK. USING LITERATURE, HISTORY, PHILOSOPHY AND INDIANA'S SHARED CULTURAL HERITAGE, IH STRIVES TO HELP HOOSIERS BETTER UNDERSTAND THEMSELVES AND THE WORLD AROUND THEM.
DURING 2020, IH RECEIVED SPECIAL FUNDING FOR TWO TEMPORARY GRANT PROGRAMS TO ADDRESS SPECIFIC CHALLENGES OF THE DAY. IH RECEIVED FUNDING VIA THE CARES ACT TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO INDIANA NONPROFITS INVOLVED IN HUMANITIES PROGRAMMING IMPACTED FINANCIALLY BY THE PANDEMIC. $550,500 IN GRANTS WERE MADE TO 80 NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO SUPPORT THEIR OPERATIONAL COSTS. IH PROVIDED $133,264 IN GRANTS TO ASSIST 149 INDIANA LIBRARIES ENHANCE THEIR COLLECTIONS OF RACIAL EQUITY MATERIALS TO ASSIST WITH PROVIDING A BROADER AND MORE BALANCED PERSPECTIVE ON RACE AND DISCRIMINATION FACED BY MINORITIES.
THE EUGENE AND MARILYN GLICK INDIANA AUTHORS AWARDS, NEWLY EXPANDED AND POWERED BY INDIANA HUMANITIES, CELEBRATE INDIANA AUTHORS AND THEIR RECENT WORKS. THEY ALSO SHINE A SPOTLIGHT ON THE STATE'S LITERARY COMMUNITY AND DEEPEN CONNECTIONS BETWEEN INDIANA'S WRITERS AND READERS.
