Organizations Filed Purposes: TO STRENGTHEN THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN INDIANA THROUGH WASTE REDUCTION, REUSE, RECYCLING, AND COMPOSTING.

RECYCLING AND COMPOSTING INITIATIVES: THE IRC PROVIDES A RANGE OF SERVICES TO ASSIST ORGANIZATIONS SEEKING TO IMPROVE THEIR RECYCLING AND COMPOSTING EFFORTS. WE CONTINUE TO OFFER OUR LEND-A-BIN RECYCLING PROGRAM, GIVING 310,000+ HOOSIERS ACCESS TO RECYCLING AND COMPOSTING. WE CONTINUED GRANT- FUNDED WORK (FROM THE CLOSED LOOP FOUNDATION) TO FINALIZE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A PILOT COMMERCIAL COMPOST ROUTE WITH THE ADDITION OF NEW PARTICIPANTS TO THE ROUTE WHICH IS ANCHORED BY IUPUI AND BUTLER. IN NEW GRANT WORK, FUNDED BY THE WABASH HEARTLAND INNOVATION NETWORK REGIONAL CULTIVATION FUND, WE PARTNERED WITH PURDUE UNIVERSITY ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECOLOGICAL ENGINEERING PROGRAM TO PRODUCE AN IN-DEPTH STUDY OF THE RECYCLING INFRASTRUCTURE OF A 10-COUNTY REGION IN NORTHWEST INDIANA. THE STUDY ZEROS IN ON RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING ACTIVITIES VIA REMOTE RECYCLING DROP OFFS, CURBSIDE COLLECTION PROGRAMS, AND PUBLIC AND PRIVATE RECYCLING CENTERS IN THE REGION.

EDUCATION OUTREACH: THE IRC PROVIDES A RANGE OF RECYCLING AND COMPOSTING EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ACROSS THE STATE. THE IRC ALSO SERVES AS AN INFORMATIONAL RESOURCE (VIA PHONE, EMAIL AND OUR INFORMATIVE WEBSITE) TO ANYONE WHO HAS QUESTIONS ABOUT RECYCLING IN INDIANA AND MAINTAINS A RECYCLING LOCATOR, RECYCLESEARCH. WE HAVE BEGUN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MASTER RECYCLER PROGRAM, AN ONLINE EDUCATION PLATFORM WITH A SERIES OF LEARNING MODULES ON WASTE REDUCTION, REUSE, RECYCLING, COMPOSTING, SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT DESIGN, THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY, AND A VARIETY OF OTHER TOPICS. THE MASTER RECYCLER PROGRAM ADDRESSES INDIANA'S NEED FOR COMPREHENSIVE RECYCLING & CIRCULAR ECONOMY EDUCATION. A MULTI-STAKEHOLDER INITIATIVE, INDIANA FOOD SCRAP INITIATIVE, CONTINUES AS A CONVENER FOR FOOD WASTE STAKEHOLDERS IN INDIANA VIA STRATEGY GROUPS WHICH WORK ON DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF ADDRESSING INDIANA'S UNIQUE FOOD RECOVERY CHALLENGES.

CONFERENCE: THE IRC HOSTED AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE EDUCATING ATTENDEES ON CURRENT ISSUES SURROUNDING RECYCLING AND COMPOSTING ACTIVITIES IN INDIANA, WITH A THEME OF "BEYOND RECYCLING: THE CASE FOR EMBRACING THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN INDIANA." THE CONFERENCE WAS ATTENDED BY 280+ PEOPLE. AMONG THE 280 WAS 12 SUSTAINABILITY STUDENTS FROM A VARIETY OF INDIANA COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES, WHO WERE OFFERED FULL SCHOLARSHIPS, INCLUDING LODGING.
