Organizations Filed Purposes: INDY GATEWAY WAS CREATED FOR AND ITS PRIMARY OBJECTIVE IS TO IMPROVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT. THE PURPOSES INCLUDE PROMOTING ECONOMIC GROWTH, INCREASING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE REVITALIZATION OF NEIGHBORHOODS, AND MAKING THE WEST SIDE OF INDIANAPOLIS A PLACE WHERE FAMILIES WANT TO LIVE, WORK AND PLAY.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDY GATEWAY HAS EXPANDED ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH AREA 31 CONSTRUCTION TRADES PROGRAM, WHICH IS HOUSED AT BEN DAVIS HIGH SCHOOL, TO BUILD HOUSES DURING THE ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR. THE THIRD HOUSE BUILT IN THE DREXEL GARDENS NEIGHBORHOOD CLOSED IN THE SUMMER OF 2019. THE 2019-2020 BUILD BEGAN IN AUGUST 2019. APPROXIMATELY 30 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN EACH HOUSE AND 1 FAMILY BOUGHT EACH HOUSE. IN MARCH 2018 A PRIVATE CONTRACTOR PARTNERSHIP WAS FORMED WITH INDY GATEWAY BEGINNING WITH THE REHAB OF THREE HOUSES NEAR THE WEST WASHINGTON STREET CORRIDOR. TWO HOUSES, WHICH WERE BOUGHT THROUGH RENEW INDY AND WERE PREVIOUSLY LISTED ON THE MARION COUNTY TAX SALE LIST WERE TRANSFORMED AND PUT ON THE MARKET FOR QUALIFIED HOMEBUYERS AND TURN THESE AREA LIABILITIES INTO TAX GENERATING PROPERTIES THAT WILL BENEFIT OUR LOCAL ENTITIES AND IMPROVE THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THE HOUSES ARE IN FEDERALLY DESIGNATED LOW AND MODERATE-INCOME AREAS ON WESTBROOK, VINE AND BEECHER. THE SECOND HOUSE WAS SOLD IN APRIL 2019 TO ONE FAMILY. THE THIRD HOUSE WAS DEMOLISHED, AND THE PROPERTY HAS BEEN RESERVED FOR THE 2020-2021 AREA 31 HOUSE BUILD.

IN 2016 THE SHELTON HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD WORKED WITH THE CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS TO DEMOLISH A MOBILE HOME PARK AT 3844 ROCKVILLE AVENUE ON THE WEST SIDE OF INDIANAPOLIS AFTER IT WAS LEFT ABANDONED BY ITS OWNER. THE ABANDONMENT OF GRANNY LLOYD'S TRAILER PARK LED TO CRIME AND UNDESIRABLE ACTIVITY FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD. IN EARLY 2017, INDY GATEWAY BEGAN WORKING WITH THE NEIGHBORHOOD TO HAVE THE LAND DONATED FOR A POCKET PARK. THE OF CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GRANTED THE PROPERTY TO INDY GATEWAY, WHICH IS 2.66 ACRES NEAR HOLT AND WASHINGTON STREET. IN 2017, THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND INDY GATEWAY INC. WERE AWARDED A KEEP INDIANAPOLIS BEAUTIFUL (KIB) GREENSPACE GRANT (NON-CASH) AND IDENTIFIED AS ONE OF ITS THREE GREENSPACE LOCATIONS IN INDIANAPOLIS TO BE DEVELOPED IN 2018. THE PARK PLAN WAS DEVELOPED WITH KIB AND THE FIRM OF MKSK WITH OPTIONS AND PHASES FOR DEVELOPMENT. KIB, SHELTON HEIGHTS PARK BOARD, AND INDY GATEWAY VOLUNTEERS BEGAN THE WORK OF THE FIRST PHASE OF THE PLAN IN APRIL 2018. SINCE THIS TIME, SEVERAL CORPORATIONS SUCH AS SHIEL SEXTON, ELI LILLY, INDIANAPOLIS POWER & LIGHT, ALLIED WHOLESALE ELECTRIC, AND HOLLADAY PROPERTIES HAVE ALL ASSISTED IN THE COMPLETION OF PHASE 1. WORK CONTINUES AT THE PARK AND FUNDS CONTINUE TO BE RAISED TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL PARK EQUIPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION TO COMPLETE SUBSEQUENT PHASES OF THE PARK AS DESIGNED. ON-GOING MAINTENANCE COSTS OF THE PARK IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SHELTON HEIGHTS PARK FUND ESTABLISHED AND MANAGED BY INDY GATEWAY SERVING AS THE BOARD'S NOT-FOR-PROFIT 501(C)(3).

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS CONTINUES AS INDY GATEWAY IS PARTNERED WITH THE CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS TO IMPLEMENT THE WESTSIDE STRATEGIC REVITALIZATION & AIRPORT TIF IMPLEMENTATION ACTION PLAN. THIS PROCESS ORGANIZED FOCUS GROUPS THAT INCLUDED NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVES, BUSINESS OWNERS AND OTHER IMPACTED GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. THE PLAN WAS FINALIZED IN AUGUST 2018 AND LAYS OUT SPECIFIC PROJECTS TO BE IMPLEMENTED IN THE COMING YEARS THAT WILL SPUR ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOR THE AREA.
