TO RETURN VACANT AND ABANDONED PROPERTY TO PRODUCTIVE USE IN THE CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
THE ORGANIZATION HAS ENTERED INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH INDIANA HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY RELATED TO ITS HARDEST HIT FUND PROGRAM. THE PURPOSE OF THE AGREEMENT IS TO ALLOW THE ORGANIZATION TO ACQUIRE AND DEMOLISH BLIGHTED RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURES AND FACILITATE AN END USE OF THE NEWLY VACATED RESIDENTIAL LOTS, WHICH IS KNOWN AS THE BRIGHT ELIMINATION PROGRAM (BEP).
THE HOUSE LIFE PROJECT (HLP) IS A GRASSROOTS, ARTS-FOCUSED INITIATIVE BASED IN AN ABANDONED HOUSE ON THE NEAR EASTSIDE OF INDIANAPOLIS. THROUGH SUSTAINED RELATIONSHIPS WITH LOCAL RESIDENTS, THE HLP REIMAGES A COMMUNITY LIABILITY (VACANT HOUSE) AS A COMMUNITY ASSET (HUB FOR ARTS AND CULTURE). RENEW INDIANAPOLIS IS A NONPROFIT LAND BANK FOR THE CITY OF INDIANAPOLIS THAT WORKS TO RETURN VACANT AND ABANDONED PROPERTY TO PRODUCTIVE USE. THE LAND BANK HELPS THE HLP IDENTIFY SUITABLE HOUSES FROM ITS INVENTORY AND OFFERS ASSISTANCE WITH PROJECT GOALS AND FUNDING.
