Organizations Filed Purposes: TO INCREASE SOYBEAN DEMAND, TO CONDUCT PROMOTION, RESEARCH, PRODUCER EDUCATION, INDUSTRY INFORMATION PROGRAMS AND MARKET DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES IN RELATION TO THE USE OF SOYBEANS AND SOY PRODUCTS IN AQUACULTURE, TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOY-BASED AQUAFEEDS, AND TO TRANSACT ANY AND ALL LAWFUL BUSINESS FOR WHICH CORPORATIONS MAY BE INCORPORATED UNDER THE ACT, PROVIDED SUCH BUSINESS IS NOT INCONSISTENT WITH THE CORPORATION BEING ORGANIZED AND OPERATED EXCLUSIVELY FOR CHARITABLE PURPOSES.

AS DETAILED ABOVE, SAA'S PURPOSE IS FOCUSED ON INCREASING THE MARKET FOR SOYBEANS IN PARTICULAR, SAA WILL FOCUS ON SOY-BASED AQUACULTURE FEEDS. THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOY-BASED AQUAFEEDS IS CRITICAL FOR THE FUTURE OF FOOD SOURCES, SPECIFICALLY WITH RESPECT TO FISH AS A FOOD SOURCE. WILD-CAUGHT FISHERIES CANNOT SUSTAIN THE INCREASING PRESSURE OF GLOBAL SEAFOOD DEMANDS BY 2030; AN ADDITIONAL 50 MILLION TONS OF FISH PER YEAR WILL BE NEEDED TO MAINTAIN CURRENT LEVELS OF SEAFOOD CONSUMPTION. WILD FISH CAPTURE REACHED ITS MAXIMUM VOLUME CAP IN THE MID-1980S AND CANNOT GROW TO MEET THIS INCREASED DEMAND. RESPONSIBLE FISH FARMING IS THE ONLY WAY TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE WILD SUPPLY SHORTFALL, CRITICAL CONSUMER DEMAND, AND HEALTH NEEDS. INCREASING THE AVAILABILITY OF SOY-FED, FARM-RAISED FISH CAN HELP FULFILL THIS GROWING NEED WHILE CONSERVING NATURAL RESOURCES SOYBEANS ARE ONE OF THE WORLD'S BEST NON-FISH SOURCES OF ESSENTIAL OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS, HEALTHY PROTEINS, AND UNSATURATED FATS. HIGH-QUALITY SOY PROTEIN IS FED TO FARMED FISH AND SHELLFISH, TO SUPPORT THEIR GROWTH AND HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT. SOYBEAN MEAL, SOY PROTEIN CONCENTRATES, AND SOYBEAN OIL, CAN REPLACE FROM ONE THIRD TO ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF THE FISHMEAL IN FEEDS FOR MANY FARMED SPECIES, REDUCING THE NEED FOR WILD-CAUGHT FISH FOR FISHMEAL. MOREOVER, SOYBEAN MEAL COSTS SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN MOST ANIMAL MEALS, INCLUDING FISH MEAL. REDUCING FEED COST IS CRITICAL TO IMPROVING EFFICIENCY AND MAINTAINING SUSTAINABILITY IN AQUACULTURE OPERATIONS BECAUSE THE NUTRIENT REQUIREMENTS OF FARMED FISH AND SHELLFISH ARE SO COMPLEX, EACH FEED RATIO IS FORMULATED BASED ON THE INDIVIDUAL SPECIES' NEEDS. MOST FARM-RAISED FISH AND SHELLFISH CAN EASILY DIGEST SOYMEAL, WHICH HELPS THE FISH MORE EFFICIENTLY TRANSFORM INGESTED PROTEIN INTO BODY WEIGHT. SOYBEAN MEAL PROVIDES A CONSISTENT PRODUCT TO FISH FARMERS, WHICH IN TURN ALLOWS FARMERS TO SUPPLY CONSUMERS, CHEFS, AND OTHERS WITH FISH AND SHRIMP OF CONSISTENT QUALITY, SIZE, AND SUPPLY WHILE IN ITS FORMATIVE STAGES. ALL ACTIVITIES SAA UNDERTAKES WILL BE FOCUSED ON PROMOTING THE FEED-BASED AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY. THERE HAVE BEEN THREE SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES THAT SAA WILL FOCUS ON (1) RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE SOY-BASED AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY, (2) EDUCATION AND OUTREACH OF THE AQUACULTURE AND SEAFOOD INDUSTRY, AND (3) FOCUSING ON SAA'S AND THE SOY AQUACULTURE'S INFRASTRUCTURE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT. WHILE THE SOY AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY HAS A VERY POSITIVE FUTURE AS A VIABLE AND SUSTAINABLE FOOD SOURCE, SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENT OF THE INDUSTRY IS REQUIRED. SAA WILL FOCUS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOY-BASED AQUACULTURE AS A VIABLE FOOD SOURCE, UTILIZING GENETIC SELECTION TO DEVELOP A DOMESTICATED BROOD STOCK THAT THRIVES ON PLANT-BASED FEEDS A CENTRAL COMPONENT OF SAA'S PROGRAMS WILL FOCUS ON FUNDING RESEARCH. SAA WILL WORK WITH THE SOY AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE TO SUPPORT NEEDED RESEARCH. SAA DEVELOPED A PEER REVIEW PANEL TO SET RESEARCH PRIORITIES AND PROVIDE RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE SAA BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGARDING THE RESEARCH PROJECTS TO SUPPORT AND FUND. ALL RESEARCH PROJECTS SUPPORTED AND FUNDED BY SAA WILL BE DECIDED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SAA'S CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY ADDITIONALLY, ALL RESEARCH RESULTS WILL BE PUBLISHED ON A DATABASE THAT WILL BE PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE THROUGH THE SAA WEBSITE, AND DEPENDING UPON THE NATURE OF THE RESEARCH, WILL BE PUBLISHED IN SCHOLARLY JOURNALS EDUCATION AND OUTREACH SAA WILL ALSO SERVE AS A FACILITATOR WITHIN THE AQUACULTURE AND SEAFOOD INDUSTRY TO HELP ENSURE ALL THE NECESSARY STAKEHOLDERS ARE COMMUNICATING AND INVOLVED IN FURTHERING THE INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE. SPECIFICALLY, SAA WILL HOST MEETINGS AND SPONSOR WORKSHOPS THAT WILL FOCUS ON BRINGING TOGETHER THE STAKEHOLDERS OF THE AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY, INCLUDING INVESTORS, PRODUCERS, AND GROWERS. THESE GATHERINGS WILL HELP ENSURE THAT THOSE INVOLVED IN THE INDUSTRY ARE COMMUNICATING AND DOING WHAT IS NECESSARY TO HELP ADVANCE THE INDUSTRY. IN ADDITION TO COMMUNICATION AND WORKSHOPS WITHIN THE AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY, SAA WILL FOCUS ON OUTREACH TO THE PUBLIC AS A WHOLE IN AN EFFORT TO PROMOTE THE SOY AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY SUCH ACTIVITIES ARE GEARED TOWARDS EDUCATING THE PUBLIC REGARDING THE BENEFITS OF SOY-BASED AQUACULTURE FEEDS, AND THE IMPACT THAT SUCH AN INDUSTRY CAN HAVE WITH RESPECT TO ASSISTING THE SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS OF FISH AS A FOOD SOURCE. INFRASTRUCTURE IMPORTANTLY, SAA WILL ALSO DEVELOP INTERNAL METHODS TO TRACK THE SUCCESS OF ITS PROGRAMS AS WELL AS THE PROGRAMMING OF THE SOY-BASED AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE. SPECIFICALLY,SAA WILL CONDUCT SURVEYS TO MEASURE THE IMPACT OF ITS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. THE PURPOSE OF SAA IS TO HELP ENSURE THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE SOY-BASED AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY. THIS TYPE OF TRACKING WILL HELP ENSURE THAT SAA'S PROGRAMMING IS EFFECTIVE, AND FURTHERMORE HELP EVALUATE THE MECHANISMS THAT WILL ASSIST IN MOVING THE SOY-BASED AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY FORWARD
