WHEELER MISSION MINISTRIES PROVIDES CHRIST CENTERED PROGRAMS TO THE HOMELESS AND THOSE IN NEED.
WHEELER MISSION PROVIDES TEMPORARY EMERGENCY SHELTER TO HOMELESS AND/OR DISADVANTAGED MEN AT FACILITIES IN INDIANAPOLIS AND BLOOMINGTON, IN. BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER, SHOWERS, CLOTHING, CHAPEL SERVICES, CASE MANAGEMENT (WITH REFERRALS TO ONSITE AND OFFSITE SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES) ARE PROVIDED. MEDICAL, DENTAL, AND PODIATRIC SERVICES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE. WHEELER MISSION'S MEN'S RESIDENTIAL CENTER PROVIDES RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS FOR MEN WHO NEED ADDITIONAL LIFE SKILLS TRAINING, ARE EMPLOYED BUT HAVE NO PERMANENT RESIDENCE, OR HAVE PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL CHALLENGES. IN INDIANAPOLIS, WHEELER SERVES AS THE PRINCIPAL AGENCY IN PROVIDING SHELTER DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER TO ANY PERSON SEEKING REFUGE AS PART OF THE COMMUNITY'S WINTER CONTINGENCY PLAN FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS.
WHEELER MISSION OFFERS ADDICTION RECOVERY PROGRAMS FOR MEN AND WOMEN. MEN STRUGGLING WITH SUBSTANCE ABUSE CAN ENTER THE HEBRON PROGRAM, WHICH HAS FACILITIES IN INDIANAPOLIS AND BLOOMINGTON. THIS PROGRAM ADDRESSES THE ADDICTIONS THAT OFTEN PRESS MEN INTO HOMELESSNESS. ONCE AN ORIENTATION PHASE IS COMPLETE, MEN MOVE TO THE HUNT TRAINING CENTER IN BLOOMINGTON FOR THE DURATION OF THE PROGRAM. THIS 288-ACRE FACILITY PROVIDES CLASS TIME, HOMEWORK, PEER GROUPS, AND WORK ASSIGNMENTS AT THE ONSITE WORK THERAPY ENTERPRISE. WOMEN SEEKING ASSISTANCE WITH SUBSTANCE ABUSE CAN ENTER THE HIGHER GROUND PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM IN INDIANAPOLIS FOCUSES ON TOTAL LIFE CHANGE, RATHER THAN A SINGLE FOCUS ON THE ADDICTION. CURRICULUM INCLUDES RECOVERY CLASSES, COUNSELING, AND LIFE SKILLS CLASSES.
WHEELER MISSION PROVIDES AN ENVIRONMENT THAT IS SAFE FOR WOMEN AND WOMEN WITH CHILDREN EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS IN INDIANAPOLIS AND BLOOMINGTON. OUR SERVICES TAKE A HOLISTIC APPROACH BY PROVIDING PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, AND SPIRITUAL HELP. HUNDREDS OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN ENTER OUR DOORS SEEKING FOOD, CLOTHING, AND HOUSING. THESE WOMEN FIND THESE VITAL NEEDS SUPPLIED, BUT THEY ALSO EXPERIENCE LOVE AND COMPASSION, BRINGING REST FOR THEIR WEARY SOULS. NATIONAL STUDIES INDICATE THAT THE FASTEST GROWING SEGMENT OF THE HOMELESS POPULATION CONSISTS OF WOMEN AND MOTHERS WITH CHILDREN, MAKING THE SERVICES OFFERED AT WHEELER MISSION IMPERATIVE TO OUR COMMUNITY. DURING THEIR STAY, LADIES ARE GIVEN COUNSELING, JOB READINESS TRAINING, ASSISTANCE IN JOB PROCUREMENT, EDUCATION ASSESSMENT AND TUTORING, MEDICAL SERVICES, AND COUNSELING.
