Organizations Filed Purposes: YWCA GREATER LAFAYETTE'S MISSION IS TO ELIMINATE RACISM AND EMPOWER WOMEN TO ENRICH THE LIVES OF OUR COMMUNITY AND ADVANCE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE ECONOMICALLY, SOCIALLY AND CULTURALLY

YWCA'S FLAGSHIP PROGRAM IS OUR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTERVENTION AND PREVENTION PROGRAM (DVIPP) WHICH INCLUDES A 30-BED RECENTLY RENOVATED SHELTER. IN 2019, YWCA PROVIDED 7,918 NIGHTS OF SAFE SHELTER TO 417 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS AND THEIR DEPENDENT CHILDREN. HOWEVER, SAFE SHELTER IS ONLY THE BEGINNING. YWCA DVIPP OPERATES A 24-HOUR CRISIS HOTLINE THAT RECEIVED 6,297 CALLS IN 2019 - ABOUT 17 CALLS PER DAY TO ASSIST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS. AT YWCA'S ADVOCACY CENTER, A SEPARATE BUILDING NEXT DOOR TO THE SHELTER, DVIPP CASE ADVOCATES WORK WITH SHELTER CLIENTS AND OTHER VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT WITH SOCIAL SERVICES, COUNSELING, SUPPORT GROUPS, TRANSLATION SERVICES, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, RENTAL ASSISTANCE, CHILDCARE AND BASIC HUMAN NEEDS. YWCA ALSO HELPS CLIENTS NAVIGATE THE LEGAL SYSTEM AND ACTUALLY ASSISTED WITH 481 PROTECTIVE ORDERS, MORE THAN 70% OF TOTAL ORDERS FILED IN TIPPECANOE COUNTY IN 2019. THE PRIMARY GOAL IS TO HELP VICTIMS BECOME SURVIVORS AND TO TRANSITION SURVIVORS AND FAMILIES INTO SAFE PERMANENT HOUSING. ALSO IN 2019, YWCA CONNECTED WITH 4,950 YOUTH IN INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION OUTREACH. IN 2019, YWCA INTRODUCED EMPOWERMENT SUITS YOU, A HOUSING STABILITY AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE, TO HELP CLIENTS CREATE LONG-TERM SAFETY AND STABILITY. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS AND OTHER MARGINALIZED POPULATIONS RECEIVED FINANCIAL LITERACY EDUCATION, WORKFORCE SKILL TRAINING, MATCH SAVINGS OPPORTUNITIES, AND ACCESS TO PERSIMMON, AN EMPOWERMENT BOUTIQUE, WHICH PROVIDED INTERVIEW AND WORK WEAR.

IN 2019, YWCA WOMEN'S CANCER PROGRAM (WCP), THE OTHER SIGNATURE SOCIAL SERVICE PROGRAM, PROVIDES EDUCATION TO WOMEN ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY DETECTION IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST AND CERVICAL CANCER. WCP NAVIGATORS AND ADVOCATES HELP TO REMOVE BARRIERS TO MEDICAL SERVICES. IN 2019, THIS INITIATIVE SERVED 2,130 UNIQUE CLIENTS PROVIDING 4,722 SCREENING SERVICES SUCH AS CLINICAL BREAST EXAMS, MAMMOGRAMS, BREAST ULTRASOUNDS AND PAP TESTS FOR THE UNINSURED, UNDERINSURED OR THOSE WHO CANNOT AFFORD THEIR INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLES. CLIENTS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER ARE SUPPORTED WITH HEALTHCARE NAVIGATION SERVICES THAT INCLUDE SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS, TRANSLATION SERVICES, TRANSPORTATION, LYMPHEDEMA PRODUCTS, PROSTHETIC DEVICES, WIGS, COMFORT CARE ITEMS AND GROCERY AND GAS CARDS TO EASE THE FINANCIAL BURDEN OF THEIR DIAGNOSES YWCA WCP SERVES 41 INDIANA COUNTIES AND IS INDIANA STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH'S LARGEST BCCP REGION. ADDITIONALLY, YWCA'S WISEWOMAN PROGRAM PROVIDES INTEGRATED SERVICES FOR COUNSELING AND MONITORING OF WOMEN'S OVERALL HEALTH AND CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION. INDIANA CANCER CONSORTIUM RECOGNIZED YWCA FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS IN CANCER PREVENTION AND CONTROL AT THEIR ANNUAL MEETING.

YWCA ADULT AND YOUTH PROGRAMS INSPIRE LIFELONG LEARNING AND PHYSICAL AND MENTAL FITNESS. Y-DANCE HAS GROWN FROM 16 STUDENTS IN 2003 TO 300 STUDENTS TODAY. AFFORDABLE CLASSES ARE PROVIDED FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND FOR THOSE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. BALLET, TAP, JAZZ AND HIP HOP CLASSES ARE OFFERED. ALONG WITH SKILL INSTRUCTIONS, STUDENTS ARE TAUGHT HOW TO BE GOOD HUMANS. PERFORMANCE POINT VOLLEYBALL IS YWCA'S LEADERSHIP-BASED YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM THAT ALSO TEACHES LIFE LESSONS AND TECHNICAL SKILL THROUGH COMPETITIVE CAMPS, CLINICS AND WORKSHOPS - ALL GEARED TO IMPROVE SELF-ESTEEM AND CONFIDENCE. ADULT PROGRAMS PROMOTE SOCIAL INTERACTION, EDUCATION AND PHYSICAL FITNESS THROUGH BASKETBALL PICKLEBALL, VOLLEYBALL, DANCE, YOGA, AND MIGHTY MOMS FITNESS CLUB.
