To promote and encourage development, awareness, and appreciation of the art of chamber music and its role in our culture through education programs, chamber music performances, and sponsorship of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
The 47th Annual National Chamber Music Competition was held virtually due to Covid-19. The event featured 49 chamber ensembles comprising 181 individual competitors. During the three days of competition, 35,000 YouTube viewers watched 1,096 hours of video performances. The top 11 domestic cities streaming videos were as follows: South Bend, Chicago, Bloomington, New York, Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, Boston, San Antonio, San Francisco,and Dallas/Ft.Worth. The top 5 international cities streaming videos were as follows: Seoul, Bologna, Berlin, London, and Toronto. The youngest competitor was age 13. There were 24 states and 27 countries and territories represented in the competition entries. Fischoff launched its "Mystery Musician" website, which connected an outstanding junior division ensemble with 1,100 area elementary school students. Fischoff's chamber Music Academy provided opportunities for regional high school chamber ensembles to receive tuition-free professional coaching sessions. Ensembles participate in outreach performances, masterclasses, and an annual public concert. In 2019-20, Academy ensembles performed for a total audience of approximately 1,700 in Indiana and Michigan. The Fischoff Double Gold tour featured both Gold Medalists of the Senior Division presenting concerts and outreach programs across the Midwest, reaching 4,000 children, youth, and adults. The Grand Prize Tour reached audiences in Italy during the Emilia Romagna Festival. Two WFMT live concert broadcasts for our Gold Medalists reached audiences of 21,000 listeners as well as 5,300 users watching via Facebook live.
