Organizations Filed Purposes: To improve the quality of life for citizens of St. Joseph County and their succeeding generations. The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County works with local donors to connect people who care with causes that matter, building endowment to strengthen and support our community long into the future.

To improve the quality of life for the citizens of St. Joseph County and their succeeding generations.

This year, our largest area of programming was Health and Human Services. This area includes major grants to dozens of area social service agencies, such as La Casa de Amistad, which provides a wide array of services for Latino individuals and families including immigration counseling and support, employment assistance, childcare and after-school programming, and other efforts; REAL Services, which is our local Area Agency on Aging and supports our community's seniors with programs such as Meals on Wheels, a guardianship program, and subsidized transportation; LOGAN, which serves developmentally disabled community members, helping them through programming, protective services, and more, and dozens of other organizations that, through their good work, make our community a better place to live. This year, we awarded more than $2.9 million to support our local social service agencies. We know that our community is only as strong as its individual components, and through these efforts, we hope to help the most vulnerable among us be safe, healthy, and well served.

The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County's second largest program area is Youth and Education. Through our Early Childhood Education initiative, we've transformed the quality of local early childhood education by providing HighScope training, mentoring, and materials to hundreds of local teachers in our Head Start program and dozens of other early childhood education centers. We've expanded our education outreach to include elementary school students at all primary centers using Responsive Classroom program. We sponsor Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program, providing free, new books for any child under five who lives in St. Joseph County. We have more than 65 scholarship funds-many of which honor the memory of loved ones and community leaders-that assist low-income students, provide internships, or train medical professionals, teachers, engineers. We hope to build a stronger future for our community by ensuring that its youngest members receive the support they need to grow into informed, involved, active citizens.

The Arts makes up our third largest area. We believe that the arts have the power to bring people together, helping all of us to develop appreciation and respect for the diversity and beauty of the human experience. Our grantees include many of the community's largest arts and culture organizations, which serve thousands of local residents and visitors from around the region. These organizations include the Studebaker National Museum, the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, South Bend Civic Theatre, Southold Dance Theater, the Fischoff National Chamber Music Association, and the South Bend Museum of Art. In addition to performances and exhibits, many of these organizations offer strong education programs, working within the local schools and also offering in-person classes for children and adults. In total, we awarded more than $1.3 million in support of the arts, showing our commitment to the tremendous creative talent of our community.
