Organizations Filed Purposes: C.O.R. became Corvilla, Inc. in 1963. Corvilla founded the very first group home in St. Joseph County and today, owns and operates four homes located throughout the community. Since 2015, we have expanded our mission to include a Day Services and Employment Services Program. We have exponentially increased our population served from 28 to over 260 individuals in just two short years. Corvilla strives to create a supportive and caring home atmosphere, provide training in adaptive skills as well as developing relationships and independence skills for every person we serve. Though much has changed since 1959, Corvilla's purpose is the same today as it was in the beginning: To provide life-enhancing services to enrich the lives of individuals with disabilities while encouraging respect and dignity in the communities in which we live.

Corvilla provides life-enhancing services to enrich the lives of individuals with disabilities while encouraging respect and dignity in the communities in which we live.

Corvilla was founded in 1959 and has been serving the disabilities community since our doors opened 51 years ago. One of the major components of that service has always been the importance of making sure our clients can reach their full potential. We currently operate 4 group homes for 28 clients located throughout the community. In 2016, to better serve our clients, we moved to a larger facility on 10-acres. Since the start of the expansion in 2015, Corvilla went from serving 28 clients and as of April 2017, serving 264 clients in St. Joseph and Elkhart county.

Day Services ProgramIn 2016, we started a Day Services Program to provide training, education and life skills to individuals with disabilities in the area. Connections is a creative, fun, learning environment with adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. We have daily scheduled activities and monthly community outings. Staff meets in the mornings to prepare for the daily activities before the clients arrive. We then begin our day and create a positive atmosphere where our clients feel safe and free to participate in activities. We encourage client participation and leadership in daily events. Staff interact with clients and offer daily engagement opportunities. Connections allow clients to choose what activities they want to participate in; resulting in a productive day. Some Connections activities offered consist of the following: health & fitness, recreational (bingo, shake and canvas, Wii, & more!), vocational (art, technology, horticulture, essentials crafts, etc.), nature, music, and volunteer opportunities in our community. Future growth is expected as more individuals in the community seek out the Day Services Program.

Employment Services ProgramWe also began providing an Employment Services Program to individuals with disabilities in St. Joseph & Elkhart counties. Corvilla is committed to helping individuals on their road to successful employment by providing the following services: vocational tests, job shadows, work experience, career exploration, resume writing, interview preparation, job search techniques, job development, on-the-job support, disability disclosure decision-making, and social security benefits planning. Our staff has almost forty years of combined experience working with job seekers with disabilities to acquire and keep jobs in the community. Our state and nationally certified Employment Specialists have areas of interest and expertise in working with job seekers with autism, developmental, physical, and mental health disabilities. Our staff assisted with the start of the National Project Search Program in South Bend and continue in our efforts to focus on students transitioning from high school to work. Our certified benefit counselors assist individuals to make informed decisions regarding their social security benefits and other assistance programs, and how they will be affected by working.
