WORK TO ENHANCE THE ECOLOGY OF THE BAYOU TECHE WATERSHED. TO ENCOURAGE RECREATIONAL USE OF BAYOU TECHE BY BUILDING A FIRST CLASS PADDLE TRAIL WITH ACCESS DOCKS IN ALL FIFTEEN TOWNS ALONG THE BAYOU. TO WORK WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO PROMOTE TRAIL BASED TOURISM AND ECOLOGICALLY SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ALONG THE BAYOU TECHE CORRIDOR
WORK TO ENHANCE THE ECOLOGY OF BAYOU TECHE AND TO BUILD AND MANAGE THE BAYOU TECHE PADDLE TRAIL, A DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR RECOGNIZED NATIONAL WATER TRAIL, FOR TRAIL BASED TOURISM IN THE FIFTEEN COMMUNITIES ALONG BAYOU TECHE.
PROMOTED THE CULTURE AND HISTORY OF BAYOU TECHE: HOSTED THE 9TH ANNUAL SHAKE YOUR TRAIL FEATHER FESTIVAL WITH OVER 200 ATTENDEES. LOCAL CAJUN MUSICIANS ENTERTAINED PADDLERS IN OUR ANNUAL BAYOU TECHE PADDLE PARADE. ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP BANQUET IN BREAUX BRIDGE FOR 120 ATTENDEES. REPRESENTED THE TECHE PROJECT AND OUR MISSION AT SEVERAL EVENTS AND CLUB MEETINGS. ALSO GAVE PRESENTATIONS ABOUT OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND FUTURE GOALS TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCILS.
PROVIDED ECOLOGICAL SERVICES:CONDUCED TRASH PICKUP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LOUISIANA OFFICE OF COASTAL RESTORATION(ONE TON OF TRASH REMOVED FORM THE BAYOU AND BANKLINE). CONDUCTED 2 BANKLINE DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHER ECOLOGICAL ORGANIZATIONS ( BAYOU VERMILLION PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION, ACADIANA NATIVE PLANT PROJECT, TREES ACADIANA) AT OUR TRAILHEAD LOCATIONS IN BREAUX BRIDGE AND LEONVILLE. WORKED WITH LOUISIANA IRIS CONSERVATION INITIVE TO PLANT IRISES AT THE TRAILHEAD IN CHARENTON. DEVELOPED AND PUBLISHED A BANKLINE MANAGEMENT GUIDE FOR LANDOWNERS ALONG BAYOU TECHE THAT PROVIDES MEASURES FOR LANDOWNERS TO REDUCE DAMAGING RUNOFF AND EROSION AND INSTRUCTS THEM ON HOW TO RESTORE THEIR BANKLINE TO NATIVE VEGETATION TO IMPROVE WATER QUALITY. THE GUIDEBOOK WAS ANNOUNCED TO ALL LANDOWNERS ON TH BAYOU AND CAN BE DOWNLOADED FOR FREE ON OUR WEBSITE. HOSTED DUCK MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP IN NEW IBERIA ATTENDED BY OVER 30 PEOPLE. CONTINUED WOOD DUCK PRODUCTION PROGRAM WITH OVER 50 LANDOWNERS ALONG THE BAYOU MONITORING AND MANAGING NEST BOXES FORM PORT BARRE TO BERWICK (PRODUCING OVER 350 FLEDGLINGS IN 2020).
MANAGED AND PROMOTER THE BAYOU TECHE PADDLE TRAIL: CONTINUED TO WORK ON AN LOUISIANA OFFICE OF TOURISM RECREATIONAL TRAILS GRANT FOR EIGHT PADDLE TRAIL DOCKS FIVE OF THE DOCKS WERE INSTALLED IN 2020, BRINGING THE TOTAL DOCKS TO ELEVEN. ACQUIRED SPONSORSHIP FUNDING FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONAL KIOSKS AND INSTALLED FOUR INFORMATIONAL KIOSKS AT TRAILHEADS IN ARNAUDVILLE, JEANERETTE, BALDWIN, AND BERWICK. PRESS RELEASES WERE SUBMITTED FOR EACH NEW DOCK AND RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONIES WERE CONDUCTED WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND PARTNERS IN THE NATIONAL PADDLE TRAIL EFFORT
