ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ARE MADE TO SELECTED GRADUATING SENIORS AT CASTOR HIGH SCHOOL AND SALINE HIGH SCHOOL FROM THE REVENUE GENERATED FROM ESTABLISHED ENDOWMENTS CREATED FOR THAT PURPOSE.
THE FOUNDATION'S PRIMARY MISSION IS TO SUPPORT PUBLIC EDUCATION IN BIENVILLE PARISH, LA. ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS ARE CONTINGENT UPON MEMBERSHIP DUES, DONATIONS, AND REVENUES EARNED. PROGRAMS INCLUDE STUDENT AND TEACHER AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED FROM THREE ENDOWMENTS.
The foundation administers three endowment funds whose accrued revenue is specifically targeted to yearly graduating seniors from the Castor High School and Saline High School(see Sch. 1 part IV). These funds were established by former students, teachers, friends, and supporters of the schools and communities they represent. Graduating seniors from Castor High School may apply for a $2000 (2 year) or for a $5000 (4 year) scholarship. The $2000 award is restricted to students planning to major in Education (preferably elementary). The $5000 scholarship is not restrictedand is open to any who qualify. The Saline High School endowment was established by a now deceased former teacher and resident of that community for $4000 (4 year) scholarship and has similar criteria for application and retention as do the Castor Scholarships. Unlike the two prior scholarships mentioned, however, the Saline award is made to as many students as can be funded by the endowments yearly generated revenue.
THE FOUNDATION IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE PARISH SCHOOL SYSTEM RECOGNIZES AND AWARDS THOSE INDIVIDUALS CHOSEN ANNUALLY AS STUDENT OF THE YEAR, TEACHER OF THE YEAR, AND EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR IN BIENVILLE PARISH AND RECOGNIZES STUDENTS THAT PLACE AT THE STATE ACADEMIC RALLY. THESE MONETARY AWARDS, WITH APPROPRIATE PUBLICITY, HIGHLIGHT THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THOSE SELECTED AND THE SCHOOLS THEY REPRESENT. THE REPRESENTED DIVISIONS INCLUDE: ELEMENTARY, JUNIOR HIGH, AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND SUPPORT PERSONNEL. SELECTED STUDENTS RECEIVE $75.00 CASH AWARDS, SELECTED TEACHERS RECEIVE $250.00 CASH AWARDS, SELECTED SUPPORT PERSONNEL RECEIVE $100.00 CASH AWARDS, AND ACADEMIC RALLY WINNERS RECEIVE $50.00 CASH AWARDS. THE RECIPIENTS OF THESE AWARDS ARE SELECTED BY A COMMITTEE COMPOSED OF COMMUNITY CITIZENS AND PARISH EDUCATORS. THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS ARE ROTATED EACH YEAR. AWARDS ARE PRESENTED BY THE FOUNDATION PRESIDENT AND THE ACTIVITIES AND GOALS OF THE FOUNDATION ARE PRESENTED AT THE PUBLIC MEETING AT WHICH THE AWARDS ARE MADE, WITH AN AIM TO INCREASE THE ORGANIZATIONS MEMBERSHIP.
