Organizations Filed Purposes:
To organize and operate the annual Pecan Festival including the corresponding pageants and Queen's Ball for the town of Colfax, Louisiana. Through the festival, the organization educated the public about the pecan indsutry and local history. The festival also promotes the local youth by hosting a number of events to showcase thier talent. Annual Pecan Festival - The annual Pecan Festival is held the first weekend in November in the town of Colfax, LA. Pecans are an important crop grown in the area and are deeply rooted in the town's history. The festival includes booths for arts and crafts vendors, food vendors and commercial vendors. The festival includes a number of activities to the attendees including a costume contest, a cooking contest, carnival rides, musical entertainment, a parade and a fireworks show. On the Friday of the festival, the area's students are given the day off to take part in a family oriented day that includes games, a children's art show and a student talent show.
Queen's Pageant and Ball - The pageant is held in mid October and kicks off the Pecan Festival. The pageant is held to select the Louisiana Pecan Festival Queen to represent the festival and promote the pecan industry in Louisiana for the following year. It is open to girls ages 17 to 23 years old, who are citizens of the United States and residents of Louisiana or a full time student at a high school, university or college within the State of Louisiana. The Louisiana Pecan Festival Pageant - This pageant is a competition for boys and girls 0 to 16 years old who are charged entry fees and then appear in an Ad Book. Ads are sold for the Ad Book and a reward is given for various levels of sales.
