THE MISSION OF THE ST. TAMMANY ART ASSOCIATION IS TO PROVIDE QUALITY PROGRAMMING AND CULTURAL ENRICHMENT TO THE COMMUNITY, TO SUPPORT ESTABLISHED ARTISTS, PROMOTE EMERGING ARTISTS, AND PRODUCE EDUCATIONAL ARTS RELATED ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN AND IN DOING SO ENHANCE LIFE IN ST. TAMMANY PARISH.
THE SPONSORING OF ART CLASSES, WORKSHOPS, AND ART EXHIBITIONS WHICH BENEFIT CHILDREN AND ADULTS, THERBY PROMOTING COMMUNICATION THROUGH THE LANGUAGE OF THE ARTS AND ENRICHING THE COMMUNITY QUALITY OF LIFE.
EDUCATION: : THE ST. TAMMANY ART ASSOCIATION OFFERS EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS IN ALL MEDIA AND CATERS TO ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE. STUDENTS RANGING IN AGE FROM 6 THROUGH ADULT MAY LEARN THE DISCIPLINES OF DRAWING, PAINTING, CERAMICS, SCULPTURE, PRINTMAKING, ART HISTORY, DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, AND SPECIALIZED WORKSHOPS. STAA ALSO PROVIDES SPACE FOR LECTURES, MEETINGS AND BOOK SIGNINGS; EACH SUMMER, STAA CONDUCTS A THEATER CAMP, AND FOUR SESSIONS OF ART CAMP FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS. ALL ART INSTRUCTION IS CONDUCTED BY WORKING ARTISTS AND/OR COLLEGE-LEVEL INSTRUCTORS.
SPRING FOR ART: HAS OVER 40 PARTICIPATING LOCAL GALLERIES AND MERCHANTS, THIS ANNUAL EVENT DRAWS SOME 4,000 VISITORS TO THE HISTORIC ST. JOHN DISTRICT EACH SEASON. NEW WORKS BY DOZENS OF ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE SOUTHEAST REGION ARE SHOWCASED. THE FREE EVENT INCLUDES LIVE MUSIC AT VARIOUS OUTDOOR AND INDOOR LOCATIONS, GALLERY OPENINGS, ART DEMONSTRATIONS, THEATRICAL & DANCE PERFORMANCES, FIRST-RATE BOUTIQUE SHOPPING, AND FINE DINING THROUGHOUT DOWNTOWN COVINGTON. VISITORS WILL STROLL THE STREETS, ENJOY LIVE PERFORMANCES BY LOCAL AND NATIONALLY-RENOWNED MUSICIANS, ALL OVER THE DOWNTOWN AREA. COVINGTON'S MANY RESTAURANTS WILL BE OPEN FOR BUSINESS. PRINTED BROCHURES WITH LOCATIONS AND CONTACT INFORMATION FOR EACH PARTICIPATING SHOP WILL BE AVAILABLE THE WEEK BEFORE THE EVENT AT STAA AND AT YOUR FAVORITE LOCATIONS AROUND COVINGTON.
FALL FOR ART: STAA'S CENTRALIZED LOCATION ON COLUMBIA STREET INDOWNTOWN COVINGTON HOLDS GREAT VALUE TO THE COMMUNITY, AS IT FUNCTIONSAS AN ANCHOR TO THE MONTHLY ART WALK EVENTS, OCCURRING ON SECONDSATURDAY EVENINGS EACH MONTH. MERCHANTS, GALLERIES AND RESTAURANTSALIKE BENEFIT FROM SPRING FOR ART AND FALL FOR ART, SEMI-ANNUAL ART ANDMUSIC CELEBRATIONS. STAA COORDINATES THESE EVENTS FEATURING AN ARTWALK WITH DOZENS OF GALLERIES, RESTAURANTS AND BUSINESSES, PLUS MUSICALACTS AND ART DEMONSTRATIONS, DRAWING MORE THAN 15,000 VISITORS FROM ALLOVER THE SOUTHEAST REGION TO THE HISTORIC ST. JOHN DISTRICT YEARLY.FALL FOR ART SHOWS APPROXIMATELY 25 VISUAL ARTISTS AND 200 MUSICIANS THROUGH EXHIBITION OPPORTUNIES AND LIVE PERFORMANCE.
