Walton Foundation: Funds were used to build the capacity of a cohort of schools led by diverse leaders to increase the quality of education to create better outcomes and opportunities for Black children in New Orleans. Our BE NOLA Collective was formed and included 5 schools. After administering the Beginning of Year School Quality Review (SQR), we began providing capacity-building support based on our five essential conditions for effective schools. Our schools received coaching and wrap-around support from diverse institutions and service providers throughout the school year toward the goal of strengthening academic and operational quality. We also convened quarterly gatherings of diverse educators across the city to provide a regular to foster collaboration and resource sharing among disconnected groups of educators.

Bloomberg Philanthropies Funds were used to provide operational and culturally-relevant professional development to schools led by diverse leaders in New Orleans who were approaching school renewal benchmarks. We provided year-long coaching and professional development with the goal of increasing effective instructional practices for 125 educators across our partner schools. We also expanded the schools operations in the areas of PR/Marketing and grant-writing.

Kellogg Foundation Funds were used to host racial healing conversations in partnership with organizations across New Orleans. These intimate community conversations serve as an opportunity to gather in affinity-based communities to share education experiences, deepen knowledge about our education environment, and surface opportunities to become better advocates for equity in our school system. This included partnering with local organizations to elevate a conversation about wellness supports for students, schools and educators and partnering with a local university to host a scholar talk.
