THE BUSINESS COUNCIL WORKS TO IMPLEMENT CLEAR, PREDICTABLE LAWS THAT FOSTER HONEST, EFFICIENT, TRANSPARENT AND ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNMENT. THE BUSINESS COUNCIL STRIVES TO ENSURE A HIGHLY COMPETITIVE BUSINESS ENVIROMENT THAT ATTRACTS PRODUCTIVE COMPANIES, INDIVIDUALS, AND FAMILIES TO OUR COMMUNITY. PRESENTLY, THE BUSINESS COUNCIL COLLABORATES EXTENSIVELY WITH GOVERMENT, CIVIC AND OTHER BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS TO TACKLE ISSUES VITAL TO THE REGION. ORGANIZED IN TASK FORCES, THE BUSINESS COUNCIL LEVERAGES THESE SMALL MEMBER-LED AND STAFF SUPPORTED GROUPS TO RESEARCH AND ADDRESS ISSUES IDENTIFIED AS IMPACTING THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS REGION. IN RECENT YEARS, THE ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN ESPECIALLY FOCUSED ON INITIATIVES DESIGNED TO MAKE CITY GOVERNMENT MORE EFFICIENT, AND EFFECTIVE INCULDING RESTORING THE FINANCIAL HEALTH OF THE NEW ORLEANS FIREFIGHTER PENSION AND RELIEF FUND, IMPROVING THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, MONITORING THE WORK OF THE U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS AND SEWERAGE AND WATER BOARD OF NEW ORLEANS, AND DEVELOPING AND ADVOCATING FOR POLICIES, THAT INCREASE THE LIKELHOOD OF SUCCESS FOR ALL ORLEANS PARISH PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS. (1) PARTICIPATED IN NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN LOCAL AND STATE ELECTED OFFICIALS AND REPRESENTATIVES OF HOSPITALITY/TOURISM INDUSTRY TO ALLOCATE REVENUE TOWARDS CITY INFRASTRUCTURE; (2) MANAGED THE RELEASE OF AN ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT SHOWING LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS PROGRESS TOWARDS FULFILLMENT OF MANDATES OF THE FORWARD NEW ORLEANS PLATFORM; AND (3) PROVIDED FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND INTELLECTUAL INPUT TO VARIOUS LOCAL AND MUNICIPAL ENTITIES.
