Organizations Filed Purposes: CAMELBACK VENTURES VISION IS TO CREATE LIVABLE COMMUNITIES, QUALITY EDUCATION, AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERYONE IN ONE GENERATION.

SINCE 2014, THE ORGANIZATION HAS FOCUSED ON ITS PHASE I PORTFOLIO: QUALITY EDUCATION, VIEWINGEDUCATION AS AN INITIAL CATALYST FOR POSITIVE SOCIAL CHANGE. TO DO THIS, THE ORGANIZATION LEADS A 6-MONTH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM THAT ACCELERATES THE VENTURE AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OF HISTORICALLY UNTAPPED ENTREPRENEURS LEADING EDUCATION-RELATED VENTURES. THUS FAR, ITS HAS SUPPORTED 70 EDUCATION-RELATED ENTREPRENEURS 95% IDENTIFIED AS PEOPLE OF COLOR AND 63% AS WOMEN. COLLECTIVELY, THEY HAVE GONE ON TO RAISE $50 MILLION IN NEW FUNDING, WHILE BEING ACCEPTED INTO NOTABLE OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDING: 500 STARTUPS, BIG ACCELERATOR, ECHOING GREEN, DRAPER RICHARDS KAPLAN, AND FORBES 30 UNDER 30 (THE ORGANIZATIONS ALUMNI HOLD FOUR OF 2018S LIST), AMONG OTHERS. COLLECTIVELY, OUR COHORTS HAVE CREATED OVER 350 NEW JOBS AND IMPACTED OVER 120,000 STUDENTS AND FAMILIES. THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THIS IN PART THROUGH THE SUPPORT OF THE ORGANIZATIONS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM, WHICH MITIGATES STARTUP RISK THROUGH DEDICATED COACHING, CONNECTIONS, AND EARLY-STAGE CAPITAL, AS WELL AS FOCUSED WORK ON FIVE CORE COMPETENCIES.

CAPITAL COLLABORATIVE WORKS WITH MID- TO SENIOR-LEVEL WHITE LEADERS FROM GRANTMAKING FOUNDATIONS AND CORPORATIONS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES WHO ARE READY TO CRITICALLY EXAMINE AND DEEPEN THEIR AND THEIR ORGANIZATIONS COMMITMENT TO RACIAL AND GENDER EQUITY. CAPITAL COLLABORATIVES UNIQUE APPROACH BRINGS TOGETHER A COMMUNITY OF ACCOMPLICES TO ENGAGE IN A THOUGHTFUL AND ACTION-ORIENTED CURRICULUM TO DIVERSIFY THEIR NETWORKS AND MAKE THEIR GRANT-MAKING PROCESSES MORE EQUITABLE. OUR MISSION IS BOTH SIMPLE AND COMPLEX: MAKE THE STARTUP CAPITAL LANDSCAPE EQUITABLE.DURING 2019 WE RECRUITED OUR FIRST PILOT COHORT WHICH RAN WITH 10 PARTICIPANTS IN THE FIRST MONTHS OF 2020.

THE DEVELOPMENT AND ONGOING IMPROVEMENT OF THIS FOUNDATIONAL CURRICULUM HAS POISED CAMELBACK TO ADVANCE TO PHASE II PORTFOLIO: LIVABLE COMMUNITIES - NAMELY, THE GOOD JOBS INITIATIVE. CAMELBACK HAS BEEN CALLED TO ACTION FOR THIS BY UNACCEPTABLE STATISTICS SUCH AS CHILDHOOD POVERTY RETURNING TO PRE-KATRINA LEVELS, DESPITE THE WAVE OF EDUCATION INNOVATION. WHILE EDUCATION IS A CRITICAL INGREDIENT, MORE IS REQUIRED. THE GOOD JOBS INITIATIVE SUPPORTED 5 LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS WITH TRANSFORMATIVE VENTURES THAT WILL CREATE EQUITABLE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY AND WEALTH CAPACITY.
